Judge, is now well of the scarlet fever and is free to begin going around again; Her case was rather light, and none of the rest of the family have contracted it. It has been announc ed by the State Board of Charities and Public Welfare , that during October 23,070 needy persons re ceived a total of $178,108.01 through the provisions of two sec tions of North Carolina's Social Security program. The report showed that 14,925 aged needy persons Teceived $130, 069.59, whfle 8,150 dependen' children were recipients of $42,- 038.42. The state average for Old Age Assistance Was $9.12, while that for Aid to Dependent Chil dren amounted to $5.16. . . During September 11,777 needy aged received $106,973.82 for an average of $9.08,; and 601 de pendent children were awarded $32,861.99, an average of $5.05 per chad. " " In October, Guilford County led in both divisions with 902 - aged persons getting a totaL-of $12, 229.87, an average of $13.56, and 448 children receiving $3,675.50 for an 'average of $8.20. . Camden County was low in both divisions, paying out only $118 to 12 aged persons for an average of $9.83, and $15 to one dependent child. More Duplin County farmers have planted winter cover crops this fall than in any previous season.
