SERVICES Regular 3rd Sunday afternoon services will be held at Hebron Presbyterian Church near Pink Hill Sunday, May 21 with pastor Rev. N. P. Farrlor in charge. The pub lic is invited. V. F. W. MEET A regular meeting of the Willard Smith Post No. 9514 of the Vet arns of Foreign Wars was held at the hut on Wednesday night, . May 10. It was decided at the meeting to sponsor a Beauty Queen to attend the N. C. Encampment to be held in Hendersonville in June. A delicious barbecue supper was served. George M. Turner is com mander of the post. BRIDGE HOSTESS Mrs. Matt Burke was hostess to her bridge club at her home in Pink Hill Wednesday afternoon. Snap dragons and roses were used in her living room where two ta bles were in play. Mrs. Helen Tur ner was the winner of club high score, Mrs. H. G. Tyndall won sec ond high and Mrs. Ike Stroud won consolation trophy. Mrs. Floyd Heath, visitor, was also, presented a prize. The hostess served toasted pecans and lemon pie. SUFFERS LOSS BY FIRE Mr. Johnnie Smith, prominent farmer of Rt. 2 had the misfortune Wednesday of losing his pack barn and smokehouse by fire. All his corn, hay and several bags of feed were lost in the "fire-with no in surance on either' the buildings or contents. RECEIVE BURNS Sharon Smith, young .daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Smith is re covering from (burns she received when she turned over a pan of hot grease at her home a few days ago. HONORED Mesdames Jones Smith, Ike Stroud and Jack Perkins were joint hostesses at a stork shower honor ing Mrs. Jack McPhaul at theVFW Hut in Pink Hill on Monday night Mrs. Stroud and Mrs. Perkins led the guests in a number of games after which Mrs. McPhaul was pre sented a corsage by her hostesses and asked to follow a string which led her to an adjoining room where she found baskets filled with gifts. Refresments consisted of open faced sandwiches, cakes, nuts and punch were served. Assisting in serving and entertaining were Misses Dorothy Carol Stroud and Betty Bruce Perkins. Miss Libby Small has returned home from N .J. where she took special work in banking and has resumed her work In the local First Citizens Bank. Mrs. W. W.' Smith spent the week end with her mother Mrs. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Sills' spent Sunday with her parents Mr. and Stewart in Dunn. Guests of the H. T'. SINGING CONVENTION BE HELD MAY 27 Wilson, May 15 Voices were being tuned up in North Carolina today. It's almost time for the big event of the year. The 9th anual Eastern Carolina Singing convention is scheduled here Sunday, May 27. The event will be held this year in Wilson's Municipal stadium. Last year more than 12,000 persons attended the- day long convention aaV spectators- and participants. Jhe Wilson. Jaycees sponsor the presentation of the convention. However, the singing convention has an organization of its own headed by L: A.-Hagwood of New port News, Va. He will be in active command when singers begin their presentations at the convention. The convention starts that Sun day morning at 10 o'clock) lasting until late" afternoon. The annual voice presentations have attracted thousands of per sons to Wilson over the years that they have been In eslstence. Hagwood will direct the- actual singing. He has had more than 25 years of experience in directing gospel music in North Carolina and other states. He received his music training in the Moody School of Music in Chicago; 111. .Working along with Hagood in the convention work are A. E. Den ton, convention secretary from Smithfield, and Johnnie Woodall, convention vice-president also from Smithfield. Serving as Jaycee chairman of the convention will be Robert E.
