The outlines read "an extremely lucky break provided Kedar Bryan, well known hunter of this area, with a black bear trophy that weighed near the 250-pound mark. Bryan was fishing the North East river in his outboard last Thursday morning and with no fish to give him diversion, he cut his motor to listen for hounds that might be running a deSr in his direction - According to the hunter he heard a rustling of rushes on the bank and a bear suddenly came put to the water. Hesitating a minute, evidently to test the wind, the bear plunged into the water and start ed swimming to the opposite bank. When the bear reached midstream, Bryan started the motor and head ed for the animal, who had been alarmed by this time and turned back. The hunter guided his boat between the bear and the bank and ran in close." Bryan is a native of Kenansvllle who now lives in Wilmington.
