Baptist Circles
Each Baptist Circle resumed a
mission study which had been start
ed previously. "Guide For Commun
ity Missions.' This study dealt with
the different phases of community
mission work. t
Circle No. 1 met with Mrs. Davis
Hollingsworth with nine members
present and with Mrs. Florence
Houston presiding. Mrs. C. J. Brown
gave the devotional taken from
the 121st Psalm. Mrs. Hollingsworth
presented the mission study after
which Mrs. Carrie Peele dismissed
with prayer.
The hostess served strawberry ice
cream pie, cheese straws and coffee.

New Year's Dance
At Leqion Home
A gay time was had on Friday
evening at the American Legion
Home when Mr. and Mrs. E. Strick
land, Mr. and Mrs. Rivers John
son and Mr. and Mrs. John Fon-
ville entertained at a New Year's
dance.
The home was attractively decor
ated with pines. Tables were cover
ed with white covers, centered with
pine branches and small red lan

W. D. Byrd, Community Mission
Chairman of the W.M.U. presented
the mission study.

Braswell as co-hostesses. Mrs. Reg
ister gave the devotional and Mrs.
Rupert Thigpen presented the Bi
ble study.
The hostesses served a sandwich
plate and coffee to the seventeen
members present.

Room of the Methodist Church with
members of their families for a cov
ered dish supper. A. M. 'Benton re
turned thanks and Mrs. F. F. Gid
dings gave the devotional Mrs. Bill
Craven presided over a short busi
ness session. There were nine mem
bers and their families present
Circle No. 2 met with Mrs. R. T.
Blackburn, Jr., with ten members
present. Mrs. J. N. West presided
and Mrs. J. A. Rackley gave the de
votional. Mrs. R. V. Phillips pre
sented the program.
Mrs. Blackburn served fruit cake
topped with whipped cream and
coffee.
Circle No. 3 met with Mrs. W. P.
West, chairman with seven mem
bers present. Mrs. Bill Taylor pres
ented the program.
The hostess served pie and coffee.
Circle No. 4 met with Mrs. Frank
Hobbs with eight members pre
sent and with Mrs. Paul Hunter,
chairman presiding. Mrs. J. C. Sur
ratt gave the devotional and Mrs.
Hobbs presented the program taken
from the 3rd chapter of Proverbs.
Mrs. Hobbs served cherry pie and
coffee.
Circle No. 5 met at the church
with Mrs. J. H. Wahab and Mrs.
J. L. Carr as hostesses. Mrs. G. P.
Pridgen gave the devotional and
Mrs. M. A. Smith presented the
program.
The hostesses served homemade
cake and coffee and soft drinks to
the ten members present.
New Year's Party
A gay young group enjoyed for
the first year having a New Year's
Party and waiting for the new year
to come in. All of this came About
when Keith Hobbs and Ann and
Bill Straughan entertained in the
Straughan home on Friday evening.
Dancing and games were enjoyed
iy the group throughout the evening
as well as refreshments consisting
of soft drinks, open face sandwiches
and cookies.
About twenty five attended.
