Bostic New programs for fulfilling a mil itary obligation, including an op porunity for a young man to com plete his ready reserve military service in three and a half years, are now available to men who enlist in the National Guard. Captain Richard S. Bostic, Battery Commander of Battery B 150th AAA Bn (90mm Gun) North Carolina Na tional Guard of Beulaville announc ed that the following plans are av ailable to National Guard enlistees. Men between the ages of i7-i w may enlist in an Army national Guard Unit, take six montns or Ac tive Duty training wltn tne Army and return home to serve for a per iod of three years in their local units. They are deferred from in duction as long as they perform satisfactory service with the Nation al Guard, and at the end of the 3 years they will be eligible for trans fer to the Standby reservevand sub ject to a call for active Federal Ser vice only in an emergency declared by Congress. In the standby reserve they are not required to participate in any reserve training. Young men between the ages of 17-18 1-2 who enlist in the National Guard after April 1, 1957 will be required to take a minimum of 11 weeks of training with the Active Army. Individuals who take only the 11 week training will be requir ed to serve in the ready reserve (Local National Guard Unit) until age 28. A man in this category is also deferred from induction as ex plained above. Men over age 18 1-2 and under 26 who enlist in the National Guard after April 1, 1957,. if they have had no prior military Service, must take the six months of Active duty and then serve the remainder of their six year ready reserve obliga tion in their local National Guard Unit.
