in August of last year. Assigned
to the third division be works with
the deck maintenance crew.
'Australians .are some of the
friendliest people Tve ever met,'
continued the Beulavllle bluejacket.
While we were there, it wasn't at
all unusual for someone to come up
to you on the street and ask you
to his home for dinner with the
family. We didnt have to pay to
ride city buses and trains, and sev
eral movie theatres admitted us
without tickets.'
Asked what he thought of the
food Harold replied, They eat more
mutton than we do. Other than 'that
the food is about the same as ours.
But they serve it differently. Wat,

many . places dont have napkins.
They put a s saucer under every

initiation was held for the 'polly

having never crossed the 'Line' pre

experienced the initiation, he is
forever known a a 'shellback' and

the Raging Main.' .
"The initiation was a lot of fun,'
says the seaman. "I Heard a lot
about them, and- ours was every
thing rd expected and then some.
I'll never forget it .and I'm really
proud of my shellback certificate.'
