Merritt son of Mrs. Charity Merritt Mount Olive, recently was graduated from the I Corps Non-Commissioned Of ficers Academy In Korea. A supply clerk in Company A of the 74th Engineer Battalion, Mer ritt received Instruction in leader ship, map reading and other mili tary subjects'. The 22 year old soldier was a stu dent at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh before entering the Army last September. He received, basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and arrived overseas in March;; from an assignment at Fort Lewis, Wash. GARRY U HARGROVE U. S. FORCES, JAPAN (AHTNO Gary L. Hargrove, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hermon I Hargrove, Route 2, Mount Olive, recently was promot ed to specialist second class in Ja pan where he is a member of the 37th Antiaircraft Artillery Batta lion. Hargrove, a radar operator in the battalion's Battery C, entered the Army In October 1833 and complet ed basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C. The 25 year old soldier attended B. F. Grady High School in Sev en Springs. CPL. RICHARD W. SKIPPER OBERAMMERGAU, GERMANY (AHTNO Cpl. Richard W. Skip per, son of Mrs. Emma L. Skipper, Rt. 1, Pnse Hill recently completed the military police course at the Army's European Intelligence,. Mi litary Police and Special Weapons School near Oberammergau, Ger many. CPL. BILY W. ENGLISH 24TH DIV.. KOREA (AHTNO Army Cpl. Billy W. English, whose sister. Mrs. Mary Outlaw, lives in Wallace, is a member of the 24th Infantrv Division in Korea. Corporal English, a squad leader in Company C of the division's 19th Regiment, entered the Army in November 1955 and completed basic training at Fort Hood, Tex. The 21 year old soldier attended Chinquapin High School. PVT. CLEATIS E. JONES FORT JACKSON, S. C. Private Cleatis E. Jones, husband of Mrs. Jo Ann Baker Jones, Rt. 2, Pink Hill, has been assigned to 'C Com pany, 3rd Battalion, 1st Training Regiment for eight weeks of basic infantry training. During the next eight weeks he will be learning the fundamentals of being an infantry soldier. This includes classroom lectures in such subjects as military courtesy, first aid, man reading, and personal hy giene. He will also learn to fire the M-E rifle on several ranges . JAMES B. Fields Jr., whose fath er lives at 226 N. College St., Wal lace, was one of more than 70 Re serve Officer Training Corps cad ets from North Carolina State Col lege of Agriculture and Engineer ing, Raleigh, who recently attended a one day military orientation course at Fort Bragg. The 12 week training schedule in cluded drill, bayonet training, phy sical conditioning, parades and cere monies, and other military subjects. Three weeks were spent on the rifle range where the recruits fired the M-l rifle and received instruc- 'on in basic Marine infantry wea pons. This recruit training prepares youn gLeathernecks for further specialized infantry training at Camp Lejeune, N. C.
