observe National 4-H Club Week,
March 3 to 10. The young people
are among the 2.296,000 4-H'ei s who
belong to about U3.000 clubs in ur
ban, suburban, and rural areas thr
oughout the United States.
Among the special 4-H Week acli
vities planned for Duplin t'onnly
are: News articles featuring com
munity 4-H Clubs in Duplin Counly
with special emphasis on the type
of programs 4-H'ers are conducting
through a United Community effort.
The week has a number of local
and national aims - among them:
To give members a chance to mea
sure progress and set new goals,
influnence more youth to join or
form 4-H clubs, acquaint more par
ents with the organization and en
list ther aid; encorage more pre
sons to volunteer as local leaders,
stress learning to live and serve
cooperatively with others, and re
cognize the major part played by
Friends of 4-H.
Sharing honors with club mem
bers in all states will .be nearly
310,70 men and woman who serve
as unpaid volunteer lenders, and
guide 4-H work in local communi
ties throughout the 50 states and
Puerto Rico. Forty of these volun
teer leaders are located in Duplin
county. These leaders, after receiv
ing training from the Agricltural
Kxtension Service, are responsible
for guiding club work in 17 Com
munity 4-11 Clubs.
