The meeting, scheduled to be
beCd in the J. S. Dorton Arena
at the N. C State Fair, annually
attracts between 3,000 and 5.000
"airmers from all areas of North
and Soulth Carolina, according to
G. D. Arndt, general' manager of
the two organizations.
Murphy, a native North Caro
linian, was born in Duplin Co
and attended school im WaLlace.
He was graduated from Duke Un
iversity in 1931 with an A. B. de
gree. In 1934 he received his IX.
B. degree from the same institu
tion. Aiter graduation, he became a
law assistant in the office of the
IT. S. Senate Legislative Coun
sel!, serving in this capacity for
Iwo years. For .the next 11 years,
he was assistant legislative coun
sel to the Senate.
As a specialist in agricultural
egislation, he helped draft the
Agricultural Adjustment Act. of
1938, basis of the present farm
program, and other farm legisla-
tion.
He became administrative as
sistant ' to President Truman in
1947 and was advanced to the pos-
itibn of speoial counsel to the
Pnesident in 1950. In ithe latter
Job( he , atfed as' pulnrfpal staff
assistant on legislation including
that pertaining to agriculture.
From 1953 until last year, he
practiced law as a member of
the Washington, D. C. firm of
Morrison, Murphy, Clapp and Ab
rams Murphy operates a 750 ' acre
