Jerry Dale Sykes, five-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ver
non Sykes of Route 2, Mebane,
was killed Friday when be fell
beneath a piece of moving farm
machinery on his father’s farm.
Funeral services were held Sat
urday afternoon from the Hebron
Methodist Chufch near 'Mebane
with the Rev. Keith McCord, a
former pastor of that church, and
the Rev. Harley Anderson, pastor
of the Oak Grove Baptist Church
in Orange County,, conducting.
Burial was in the church ceme

He is survived by bis parents:
two sisters, Joanjie and Juil Sykes
of the home; the maternal grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Jrfr Sykes
of Route 2,_ Mebane; and the pa

Child Injured
Badly; Rode
Bike Into Car
Curtis. Sechrest, nine-years old,
was critically injured last Saturday
afternoon on Highway 70 when he
rode his bicycle into the side of
a passing car.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Sechrest, who live near
the JaMax Motor Lodge.
The accident occurred when Cur
tis rode his bicycle down the drive
; way of the lodge and into the ^ide
of a car driven by Aaron Victor
Cruise of Raleigh. No charges have
.been p^ferred, and apparently
Cruise waSspot at fault, Patrolman
T. P. Smith said.
The boy was rushed to Duke
Hospital and has remained in criti
cal condition since undergoing
I surgery for multiple fractureof
