GOP county, precinct meetings announced County Republican Chairman Col. Holland L. Robb this week announced plans for the biennial precinct and county conventions of the Republican party. — In a formal advertisement in serted in this week’s issue of The News, the GOP cnairman announ ——■ ced that in keeping with the state plan of organization for the party, precinct meetings would __ be held on the night of Jan, 22. .. of the precinct chairmen or at such other places as designated in the advertisement. At this time the precinct offi cers and delegates will be chosen to the county convention, set for 2:30 p. m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, in the County Courthouse. While only duly elected delegates may vote at this convention, all Re publicans were invited to attend. Col. Robb said there are cur rently about 500 persons register ed as Republicans -iff Orange County. During the last three years there has been a new spurt in GOP activities in the county, accompanied by a change in leadership. The county chairman said he hoped a slate of good Republican candidates would be put up for Hillsboro beats orphanage ; . - , Hillsboro won over Oxford Orl phanage last Friday night on the Wildcats’ home court, 58-45. Center Craig Allison scored 16 points and grabbed 27 rebounds. Danny Copeland of Hillsboro tied Allison for points, as did Otis Dickerson of Oxford Or phanage. The victory was Hillsboro’s first win against one loss in con ference action and second against three set-backs over-all. Hillsboro stormed to a 35-12 lead at the half! County Republican officers at this time, in addition to Col. Robb, are Mrs. Mary Grice of Carrboro, Vice-Chaiman; Mrs. Kay Whyburn of Chapel Hill, Secretary; and Jim Botsford of Hillsboro, Treasurer. At the County convention new officers will be elected and delegates to the state convention chosen. > New 10-bed clinical research unit opened in Memorial Hospital for Medical School By Robert H. Bartholomew A new Clinical Research Unit was activated at the University School of Medicine Mbaday .and the first of a number of sched uled patients arrived Tuesday. The new unit was made pos sible by a grant, in late 1960, from the National Institute of Health of the U. S. Public Health Service. The initial grant, which .covers a seven-year period and involves a total budget of al most $900,000 for the first three years, makes it possible to carry out meticulous research studies which providing high quality care to patients with a wide variety of disorders. The UNC School of Medicine was one of the first schools :r> the nation to receive a grant for this type of research facility. The UNC Clinical Research *rn:* is a 10-bed facility located on the fifth floor of the South Wing of North Carolina Memor ial Hospital, an arrangement made possible when the Depart ment of Psychiatry voluntarily agreed to relinquish the space for this purpose until a more permanent location For the Unit is available. . .>:. The Unit is directed by Dr. Walter Hollander Jr., associate professor of Medicine, and Dr. Robert. Zeppa,. .assent profes sor of surgery.
