There are many jokes about mailmen and their not-so-hap py relationship with man's best friend. But to mailmen i£’s -no- joke being bitten or chased from someone’s yard while trying to deliver their mail. Chapel Hill Postmaster J,. Paul Cheek says that over the past 30 days one mailman has been bitten and - two chased out of yards. He says this is a serious problem, and postal authorities have been trying to solve it since 1957 when over 6jQ00 mailmen were bitten. “When we have an incident, we simply, call the dog’s owner and tell him to pick up his mail at the Post Office,” says Postmaster Cheek. “And it stays that way until something is done about the dog. We cannot tolerate this sort of thing.” Chapel Hill court docket The following judgements were rendered in the Chapel Hill Re corder’s Court on Tuesday: John Baldwin; .an affray; nol pros granted.
