J. D. Deßamut The words "compensation" and "pension," as used by the Veterans Administration to de scribe monthly payments to veterans or their dependents, pre not synonymous, Judson D, Deßamus, Manager oi the Carolina VA Regional Pffice, advised today. Peßamus explained that "compensation" is payment made because of a service .connected disability: that is, the disease, injury or death /or which the payments are being made either originated or was aggravated in active military service. There is a difference in the rate of com pensation for wartime and for peacetime service. The financi al condition of the recipient is hot taken into consideration. "Pension," on the other hand, is paid on the basis of need for disabilities or death due to nonservice-connected causes. The income of the reci pient has' a direct bearing or whether or not the pension is payable and on the amount of payment. Information concerning ei ther benefit is available by mail, phone or personal in quiry at any VA office, De- Ramus said- BIG Cooling Power"plus BIG Economy.., k .
