ed 40-lap feature wins in that
order since the 19th season
of competition started April
29th at the municipal stadi
um.
Hensley, who tied Rush
for the track's championship
in the Modified Division last
year, came up from 10th start
ing position and won last
week's event before a crowd
of 7,900. He took the lead on
the 21st lap from Hank Thom
as of Winston - Salem, who
finished in second place about
90 yards behind the winner.
Carl Burns of Leeksville
took third spot, and Brown
was fourth. Another Virginian,
Joe Thurman of Rocky Mount,
finished fifth
Carl Allred of High Point
won the 20-lap hobby (ama
teur) feature, followed in or
der by Ralph Brinttey of
Lexington and Burnie Thomp
son of High Point Brinkley
and Larry Ring of Winston-
Salem wan 10-lap heats.
Davidson County drivers
prevailed in the claiming (nov
ice) division as Jimmy Bees
ley of Thomasville and Steve
Minrn of Lexington won a
pair of 15-lap races.
Paul Radford of Ferrum,
Va , the victim of the season's
most spectacular accident, was
released from a hospital after
overnight nlpinlinn. Rad-i
ford's modified car cratfhed
during a practice run, leaping
a guard rail gad landing in
a tree. He lost consciousness
after being removed from the
wreckage, but was conscious
again before be was taken
to • hospital . where X-rays
showed no broken hones.
A field of about 100 ears
is expectpd for Saturday
night'* fourth meet of the
season. Qualifying trials from
8 to 8:30 p. 1£ will determine
starting positions for the main
event, with the first race
starting at 8:45 P. M.
* The program will include
the 100 - lap main event for
modified and sportsman cars,
two 10 • lap heats and a 20-
lap feature for the hobby di
vision, and two 15-lap races
for the claiming division.

On Sunday afternoon at
3:00, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kur
fees entertained at a weiner
roast on their property in
Rowan County near Woodleaf,
honoring their son. Marty, on
his 10th birthday.
Hot dogs with all the trim
mings, potato chips, and iced
colas were served. Following
the meal, the children enjoyed
a soft ball game. On return
ing home, the guests enjoyed
birthday cake, ice cream and
colas. Those attending the par
ty were: Douglas Overcast,
Donnie Jordan, Susie, Sharon,
and Carolyn Lankford and the
honored.
Marty's birthday was on May
,15, and he received many
nice gifts. His grandmother,
Mrs. Annice Alsobrooks was
unable to attend the weiner
roast.

between the hours 7 P. M. til
9 P. M. at the Cooleemee
Recreation Center. Hostesses
