62nd Year No. 49 ijjjjj^ 'M fej Legion Lions re at^ Will Hold Raffle Members of the American Le- B'on Post 54 and the Cooleemee mi's Qub are sellinc tickets on a model 1100 Remington, 12 gauge automatic shotgun to be given away on December 24. Tickets may be purchased from any Legion member or Lion for 50 cents. Drawing will be held on Christmas Eve at the Cooleemee Hardware and Sporting Goods Store at 5 p.m. You do not have to be present to win. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of new street markers for the community. Hie Cooleemee American Le gion Post 54 will hold their annual Christmas Party on Fri day, December 19, at the Legion post, beginning at 7p.m. Barbecue and turkey with all the trimmings will be served to all members and courtesy members. Homemakers Slate Party The Cooleemee Homemakers will hold their annual Christ mas party on Friday, Decem ber 19, at the home of Mrs. Alice Gabbert at 6 p.m. The occasion will be a covered dish supper. Prizes this year will be awarded in the form of checks to first, second and third place winners. The winner will re ceive SSO, second place $35. and third place sls. Judges will be from out of Doyle Spry Promoted At Hospital Mr. Doyle E. Spry, Rehabili tation Therapist at Dorothea Dix Hospital, has been appoint ed the Executive Housekeeper of the Hospital. Dr. R. L. Roll ins, Superintendent, made this announcement in Raleigh. In his new position, Mr. Spry will supervise all areas of the hospital Housekeeping Depart ment, which include employee work assignments, house keeping schedules and equip ment, daily inspections, and the training of housekeeping assis tants, janitors and maids. Mr. Spry will be in constant commu nication with administrative and nursing staff to meet the needs or to effect the necessary changes which promote im proved hospital operation and physical environment. With a B.A. Degree from Uni versity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 1964, Mr. Spry has worked as the sales manager, UNC Book Exchange; Assistant Manager, UNC Laundry; and over two years work at Do rothea Dix Hospital. His position was effective De cember 1. Mr. Spry, formerly of Cool eemee, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Spry of Erwin Street. town. Winners will be notified on Monday. December 22. and awarded their prizes. Bluemont Has Top Float Bluemont won the prize for the most original float in the Mocksville Christmas Parade last week. Other prizes went to N.C. Finishing Company for the Best Commercial float, Farmington 4-H Gub for the Best Spiritual, Rowan Tech for the Best All- Around. and Clydesdale for the Best Horses. Sixty-five units entered the parade. Clodfelter, Shoaf Are Now Teaching Richard Clodfelter. son of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Clodfelter of 8 Joyner Street, is now doing student teaching at Kings Mt. High School. Kings Mt. during the winter quarter, in the stu dent teaching program of Ap palachian State University. Boone. Mr. Clodfelter is teaching Civ ics, U.S. History, Sociology and Economics under the super vision of Allen Dixon. Karl Franklin Shoaf. son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert F Shoaf of 22 Main Street, is doing student teaching at Davie County High School from December 12 through March 4 Mr. Shoaf is teaching Health and Physical Education under the supervision of Jim Conger. Both are 1%« graduates of Davie High School.
