Rebs Reign As NPC Champs
Davie County's boys basket
ball team reigns again atop the
North Piedmont Conference af
ter an 80-79, overtime victory
over South Iredell and a hard
earned 80-71 win at North Stanly
last week.
The Rebels ended their season
last night with a game against
Central Davidson at the Davie
gym.
Davie will be the top-seeded
team in the North Piedmont

Receives Diploma
Mrs. Daisy P. Temple of
Route 1, Mocksville has re
ceived her high school diploma
after completing the necessary
requirements from the Davie
County Learning Lab, an exten
sion of Rowan Technical In
stitute.

Cooleemee Baptist
The Reverend David Ed
wards of Concord has accepted
the Pastorate of the North
Cooleemee Baptist Church and
will be moving into the
Pastorium on or about
February 28th. He will assume
the work on March Ist.
He comes from the White
Park Baptist Church where he
has served for the past 3 and
years. While there extensive
renovations were accomplished
and the Sanctuary was air con
ditioned. All indebtedness was
paid off, and plans were made
to build a new church building
on a new location.
Mr. Edwards was educated in
the Concord Schools and the
Fruitland Baptist Bible In
stitute, of Hendersonville.
Mrs. Edwards is the former
Miss Doris Shank and the
couple have one son, Davis Er
nest Edwards.

by North Rowan in the tourney

Davie County trailed much of
the game against South Iredell,
but it outscored the Vikings. 16-
10. in the third quarter to gain
ground, and tied the score at the
endat7s-all.
February 28, during the Talent Show. All
proceeds will go to the Davie County
Mental Health Clinic. Tickets may be
purchased lor a $1 contribution from any
local Jaycee.

Davie trailed by 48-39 at half
time. and South Iredell at

half to protect its lead. The
Rebels applied the full-court
press and gradually chopped
away at the deficit.
A basket by Craig Ward at the
end of the overtime period won
the game for the Rebels. Davie
played the extra period without
top scorer James Ijames. who

Talent Show Plans
Nearing Completion
Plans are nearing completion
for the local Talent Show to be
held Saturday, February 28, at
7:30 p.m. at the Cooleemee
School auditorium. There have
been more than 15 entries at
press time.
Tickets for the $250 Vacation
check will be available for a $1
donation to the Davie County
Mental Health Ginic and may
be purchased anytime this week
from any Cooleemee Jaycee.
The drawing will be held during
the talent show but you do not
have to be present to win.
TTie "Courtney Cut-Ups" will
be master of ceremonies and
will entertain during the eve
ning along with the "Common
People". These groups will not
compete against the local tal
ent.
Out of town judges will select
two first place winners in differ
ent groups and two runners up.
Everyone attending the show
will also be given a chance to
win one of the following door

Ijames scored 20 points before
leaving the game. Tony Seaford
led the Rebels with 21 points,
and Ward followed with 16. and
Steve Zimmerman had 15.
A 30-point performance by
Seaford last Friday led Davie to
an 80-71 win that sewed up the
NPC title. Ijames hit 22 points,
and Ward hit 15 in the Davie
victory.

net or Dutch oven.
Admission is $1 for adults and
50 cents for school children. Any
child under school age will be
admitted free with paid attend
ance.
The talent show is being spon
sored by the Cooleemee Jay
cees. All proceeds will go to the
Davie County Mental Health
Clinic.
