Magallanes Jr. of San Manuel. Arizona. Miss Roberts is a medical specialist, presently serving with the U. S. Army at the U. S. Military Academy in West Point. New York. See these treasur es for yourself. 7 > * ELLIS FAMILY - These brothers and sisters, decendents of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ellis, are all former residents of Davie County. From a family of 13 children, there are only five surviving. They are (L-R) Mrs. Lee Rudd of Greensboro, Mr. Lewis Ellis of North Cooleemee, Mrs. S. T. Dyson of Winston-Salem, and Mr. Sam Ellis of Pittsburg, Pa. Mrs. Flora Ellis Lineback of Greensboro was absent when picture was taken. They were all recent visitors of Mr. Lewis Ellis. lanes Sr. of San Manuel, is presently serving a tour of duty in Germany with the U. S. Army. He was previously em ployed by the Motorola Corp of Phoenix, Arizona. The wedding is being planned for March, 1971. Revival Services To Begin Monday At N. Cooleemee Revival Services will begin Monday, April 20, at North Cool eemee Baptist Church. Rev. Da vid Edwards, pastor, will con duct services each evening through Sunday, April 26, be ginning at 7 p.m. Special singing will be presented nightly. Hie local Se nior Citizens Club will be the guest singers on Tuesday eve ning. The public is cordially invited to attend. A September 6 wedding is being planned at Cooleemee United Methodist Church. Miss Dunn is employed by Lyon-Shaw, Inc. She graduated Reading Is For Everyone An Invitation to Davie County What about the Davie County Libraries and YOU? The li brary Week being celebrated April 12-18 is National but let's bring this closer home let's talk about OUR LIBRARIES. We are using the plural libraries purposely, for there is excellent co-operation in Davie County between the school and public library sys tems. Each contributes its own from Davie County High School and Winston-Salem Business College. Mr. Chapman is the son of Mrs. C. F. Chapman, of 2708 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kanna polis, and the late Mr. Chap man. He graduated from South Rowan High School. The bride groom is employed by Nehi Beverage Company. kind of help to our citizens, from pre-kindergarten to retirement. As soon as a very small child can recognize simple pictures and enjoy the amplest of stories and verses his family can help him form "the library habit , and it is a real joy to see the responsive little faces as they "discover" the world of books in the public library! It is easy to tell which lucky children are brought regularly to choose their books with the guidance of librarians and parents. At age four these little folk can come to a weekly story hour held in the Main Public library and in the Cooleemee Branch, and they are delighted to be able to take books home each week. By this time, the library habit has "taken" pretty well, and they are ready to under stand and profit from the contin uing helpful library experience which they receive in school. During the school years our Davie County young people are suplementing their school facil ities by using their Public Li brary to find a whole world of knowledge at their fingertips in Reference Books, General Books, Magazines, News papers, Booklets, Records, Films and all kinds of exhibits to widen their interests. Young people of the county also receive special attention in the summer, including a planned summer reading pro gram. And what about the many persons in Davie County who Towne Pharmacy j "Your Dntf CmNv" J *u« iHfltf Mtabof J'T' Ofoi w'lqfi a jwr. 1 fnSjy 11,111 9 m?t *!***' 1 Youth Corps Will Fill 270 Jobs There will be a total of 270 job openings to be filled by Neigh borhood Youth Corps workers in the four counties of Surry, Yad kin, Stokes and Davie during the upcoming summer months. The NYC program in the four county area is administered by the Yadkin Valley Economic Development District, Inc. " To be eligible for work in the NYC program, children must be between the ages of 14 and 21 and be in school. High school graduates are not accepted. Student workers are paid a minimum of $1.45 per hour. They may work a maximum of 260 hours for the summer, pref erably 26 hours per week for a 10 week period. They may spend 10 tours pa- week of their allotted compensated time in education al programs sponsored by ac credited educational agencies as recommended by a school counselor. Work stations must be in non profit organizations, including such agencies as schools, ana branches of local government agencies or state and federal agencies. Children seeking to enroll in NYC for the summer should contact the Community Action Program office in their county, he guidance counselor in their school, or contact the Yadkin Valley Economic Development District headquarters in Boon ville. NYC is aimed at helping chil dren to earn money, gain work experience, and supply suppor ive services to low-income stu dents who are potential drop >uts. It is designed also to en tourage these potential drop juts to return to school next fall. are now out of school? No one ever completely stops learning. We couldn't live in our world if we did! So every adult in this county can turn to his own Public Library for all the helps his children receive, plus many others. There are: quick tele phone reference service to the North Carolina State library (no charge to patron for call), special programs planned for the public, Davie County history in a room of its own, a regular weekly radio program which is both entertaining and informa tive, a film service, a meeting room for community use, coun ty bookmobile service for the whole family, Main Library open each Monday night, and well, just two short tips as to how to use all this: 1. Don't hesitate to ask the librarian's help if you need it (that's what librarians are for!). 2. Get to know your local library from wall to wall don't be afraid to browse.
