It is exciting, and they are enjoying it because THEY CAN READ! These children are being taught to read through a programmed method of instruction. The teachers of the first year students continue to feel that this method is far superior to the older method that had been used in the past. There are many advantages to this newer way of lerning to read The teachers find the following features very desirable: I. A student is truly working at his own level and rate; the method is more individualized than the traditional method. 2. He meets with frequent success and so feels proud of himself. 3. The child not only can read, but also spell and write. 4. A STUDENT who is absent can go right on when he returns to school; he doesn't get behind in reading. 5. The teacher can show a parent just where her child is in reading, and how much progress s being made. 6. The interest is so great that many student insist on coming to school when the parents may think it best for them to stay at home. 7. At the end of the year, there is no decision to make as to whether the student should be promoted, or retained it is understood that each one will continue next year from the place he stopped this year. Again the parents of next year's beginning students are being invited to attend Open House during week of April 21 • 24.
