Lions Celebrate 25th Anniversary The Cooleemee Lions Club will celebrate their 25th anni versary on Monday evening, April 27, with a dinner meeting at the Cboleemee School Cafe teria at 7:30 pjn. Invited guests will include all the charter members and their wives and the Salisbury Lions Club, which sponsored the local dub 25 years ago. Ifce Mocks ville Lions Club are also invited. Crawford is the only Today Is Earth Day The students at Cooleemee Elementary School are doing their thing in observance of Earth Day. Today, (Wednes day, April 22) has been desig nated to be a day of nationwide environmental education. Homemakers Hold Regular Meeting Hie Cooleemee Homemakers Club held their regular meeting Friday at the home of Mrs. Beatrice Shore at 7:30 p.m. Hi ere were 11 members and one visitor, Mrs. Helen Bean, present. Mrs. Leonard Gabbert was welcomed into the dub as a new member. Following the business ses sion, Miss Peggy Skinner, pro gram chairman, gave an inter esting talk on 'The Main Dishes and Food Consumers". There were several prizes awarded to members winning at Bingo during the social hour. The hostess assisted by Mrs. Bean, served delicious refresh ments. Scenic Route Derrick Nichols, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Nichols on Junction Road, enjoys a scenic route as he rides toward remaining active chartered Lion in the dub. Guest weaker will be Mr. Henry Steinfidd, of Portland, Main. He was dected to the International Board of Direc tors at the 1968 Convention in Dallas, Texas. Lion Steinfidd has served dis trict as Zone Chariman, Mem bership and Retention Chair man. ioo per cent District Governor. He has served on several distric. multiple dis trict committees. Having main tained (9 years perfect attend ance, he is the recipient of a 15 Year Old Monarch Award, Lion of the Year 1966-67, Master Key Award, and two Presidential Awards. An attorney, he received his education at the Boston Univer sity and Northeastern Univer sity School of Law. He is a member of the County, State and American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Asso ciation and a past President of the Falmouth Men's Club. "Earth Day" is a reminder to teach the awareness of our envi ronment how man and civ ilization are destroying much of the natural beauty and causing increasing uollution of our land, water, and air. It is a special day to discuss the problems and what is being done about it and what must be done. Today must mark the begin ning of continued environmen tal awareness, education, and ACTION. The fourth grade students shown, along with their class mates, have been studyingpol lution and conservation. Tliey are observing Earth Day by having a trash clean-up of the school grounds. Sunday Reception To Be In Honor Of Rev. Fisher Rev. Roscoe B. Fisher and family will be honored at a reception on Sunday afternoon, April 26, from 2p.m. to 4pjn. at the Cooleemee Presbyterian manceon Watt Street. Rev. Fisher preached his first sermon here Sunday, since ac cepting the pastorate at the Presbyterian Church. The Fishers will be living mainly at Bixby, due to having equal pastorate duties there, but have completely furnished the mance here as well. They plan to spend a great deal of time in this community, also. v.
