Mill To Reopen On Small Scale
Cont. from page 1
recreation facilities to the town if it does become
incorporated. This will also include the caretakers
house behind the center.
If the town does not incorporate, there will be no
one to give these facilities to and they will have to
stand idle.
Burlington also told the committee that after six
months, the other services which they have
provided over the years will be re-evaluated. The
size of the new operation will NOT permit the
company to continue these services in the future.
Burlington spokesmen also told the group that
they would like to see another industry locate here
and they would gladly negotiate with them on their
available land. They also said they would guarantee
to make available water and sewage for such an
industry by selling it to the town, if it becomes in
corporated, for reslae.
The spokesman pointed out that they would be
willing to do as much for Cooleemee as they have
done for Erwin and Cramerton in the past. They
prepaid a years taxes to get the town of Erwin going
after they became incorporated, and said that they
would do as much for Cooleemse. He also said that
we were in a much better situation here than the
town of Erwin, which did not have a recreation
program. They will also give the town the water
distribution system.
Applications will soon be taken for this new
operation but no hiring will be done until August or
September, with the exception of a few main
tenance men to get things going.
