Cooleemee Seniors
Have Largest Club

Senior Citizens Club met Moo
day, May 11, with 78 present
including four visitors. Flower
arrangements were brought by
Mrs. Nannie Angel, Miss Annie
Pearl Tatum, Mrs Ella Foster
and Mrs. Rosanna Swink. Mrs.
Frank Miller had the devotion
als. Mrs. Viola Josey was wel
comed as a new member.
The dub was happy to have
Mrs. Bingham from Salisbury.
She brought us up to date on the
happenings in Area Six. She
reported a wonderful time at the
state convention held in Green
sboro May 1 and 2. She also
informed us that the Cooleemee
Education Center
Gets Evaluation
A team of evaluators selected
by the State Department of
Public Instruction, ESEA Title
111, visited the Supplementary
Educational Center on Monday
evening and all day Tuesday.
The evaluators were at the Cen
ter for the purpose of evaluating
the total program of the Center.

The visitors had their first
meeting Monday evening at the
Center with the superintendents
of the Salisbury, Rowan, and
Davie Administrative units,
board members, staff mem
bers, and Mr. Bill Lyon. Follow
ing a buffet dinner, the Center
staff gave the visitors a thor
ough orientation of the project.
Tuesday's session Began at
the Center Art Gallery where
the visitors reviewed the pro
gram and toured the facility. A
meeting with representative
principals followed at the Salis
bury City Schools office. The
group then returned to the Cen
ter where they observed the
various staff members teaching
children on the nature trail, in
Setzer School, and in the plan
etarium.
Club has the largest member
ship in Area Six.
The president, Mr. Fred Mur
phy, was presented a certificate
of membership for the Cool
eemee Club as members of the
State Senior Citizens.
All Senior Citizens will be
given a lifetime free pass to the
state fair and all other fairs held
in North Carolina. At the next
meeting on May 25 there will be
a picnic lunch. All members are
urged to be there and bring a
basket full of goodies.
Delegates were elected to at
tend the area meeting to be held
in Mooresville on May 21.
The evaluation came to a
conclusion with an interaction
session with the project staff.

with their parents. On Saturday

honored with a dinner

To Elect Officers
The Cooleemee American
Legion Post 54 will elect officers
for the coming year Monday,
May 18th.
At this time, there will also be
a Fish Fry for the members
beginning at 7:30 p. m. at the
Local building.
All legionnaires are urged to
attend this meeting.
Class Held
A class in good eating habits
and consumer buying is being
held at the Davie County Office
building, Monday, May It, at
7:30 p. m. The public is invited
to attend.
This class is taught by Mrs.
Nancy Hartman, Assistant
Home Makers Extension Agent

and giatitade that I try to write
this letter to the people of Daw
County.

have been shown to me and my
family especially daring this
last campaign
I wish I could speak to all the
people in our county and
everywhere and make them

do our job with a touted budget
and a shortage of help. There
knew with a certainty that my
wife would be a widow, but the
job had to be done first.
I coukl never have earned out
the help of my deputies and my
special deputies. Few in
the county realise the amount of

deputies Many times I have
had to —*ffrr use of these
and I thank them from the
bottom of my heart Another
thing I want to make very dear
to you is that I have never once
taken a bribe from anyone and I
can honestly say that, I have
had to use my sheriff's salary
on the job to keep my car an the
road. Traveling expenses far
exceed travel allowances I am
glad that I can say that I never
once used this job to get ahead
myself or I never use the power
politically. I was always far the
people and I think most of you
know that I know that I could
not always make people happy
or satisfied with what I did, but
I always tried to be fair and I
did the best I could. I felt I had
to say these things and once
more from my wife, my son,
and myself I say Thank You
so very, very much for all that
you did for me and far trusting
