beauty pageant to be held in
Cooleemee on Saturday, Sep
Tower To House Burlington Equipment
Since the announcement in
May by Burlington Industries
that a small manufacturing
operation would be located at
the Cooleemee Plant, there has
been considerable activity in
receiving and installing
equipment. TO the casual
passerby this has has not been
evident until the past few weeks
with the construction of the 90
foot tower, which rises above
the existing structure. This
break in the skyline is a clear
indication of the even greater
work being done within the
former Finishing Plant where
the new operation is located.
Burlington contacted Mr.
Earl Guss, plant personnel
manager, and requested him to
give information as to the plans
for hiring and schedule of start
up for the plant. He said the
Maintenance Department has
been staffed; although, this is
being reconsidered constantly
as the work progresses. Fur

session at the district P.T.A.
regional meeting. Refresh
ments will be served in the
cafeteria following the business
session which will allow a time
for all to get better acquainted.

Hie contestants will be judged
on poise, "beauty," and from
evening gown, talent and swim
suit competition. It has also
been reported there will be a
variety of talent displayed,
ranging from dramatic read
ings, ballet, pantomime, fast
dance, operetta, recitations to
the extreme of burlesque strip
and chords of the "pot-a-harp."
The local Senior Citizen band
and Miss Beth Hoyle, pianist,
will be on hand to entertain
during intermission.
After the crowing of Miss Jay-
Silly, the evening of fun will be
climaxed with the giving away
of two lovely and useful tables
as door prizes.
The Jaycettes are grateful for
support from the community
and urge all residents to attend
the pageant and promise a very
unforgetful evening of fun.

Marlene is the editor of
the Cooleemee Journal.
Infanticipating
"Charley Brown" was the
name Marlene and her
husband tagged to their
little tax deduction.
Tuesday, at 11:20 a. m.

Brown" put in an ap
pearance.
But Charley Brown was
a girl .... weighing 8 lbs.
