Resigns At
First Baptist
Eev. Chas. P. Burchette, pas
tor of the First Baptist Church
for the last ten years rendered
his resignation to the congrega
tion on Sunday.
Rev. Burchette has accepted
the position of Secretary of Mis
sions of the Tar River Baptist
Association in Franklin and
Nash counties of the state. He
and Mrs. Burchette will live just
outside of the town of Louisburg,
N.C.
Rev. Burchette's ministry
will be concluded with the morn
ing worship service on Novem
ber 15th.

promoted to Staff Sgt.
Miss Mauldin is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Mau

Community Day
Set Saturday
The first annual Community
Day in Cooleemee will be ob
served on Saturday. Oct. 10
from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
at the Cooleemee recreation
center and sponsored by the
Cooleemee Recreation Commis
sion.
The Community Day will con
sist of a barbeque with bar
beque chicken, games and
prizes, horse shoe tournaments,
badminton tournament, ping
pong, bingo and etc. Also cakes
will be on sale by the Cooleemee
Jaycettes. Jn addition to bar-

American Legion Post 54
challenges all Civic groups,
churches, or any individual for
contributions, regardless of the
amount, to the recreation
center. These contributions are
a must in order to keep the
recreation center in operation.
This week Post 54 donated
SIOO.OO to the Recreation
Commission to get the ball
rolling. F.very week the Journal
will carry an up to date record
of contributions made to the
Recreation commission. You
may mail your contributions to
the Recreation Commission or
to the Journal at Box 548.
Homemakers Plan
Halloween Party
The Cooleemee Homemakers
Club will have a covered dish
supper and Halloween party on
Friday, Oct. 16at 6:30 which will
be held at the Cooleemee
recreation center.
All members are asked to
dress for Halloween.
