front door by Dr. and Mn. Jones
and introduced to the receiving
line composed of Mr. and Mrs.
Ben Joynci.and Mr. and Mr?. J.
B. Moore. In one end of the
spacious hall delicious, fruit
punch was served by Mr J. W
Joyner and Miss Lucy Farmer,
of Wilson.
After all the gue&s had arrived
a lively game of rook was en
joyed, in which game Mr. Jna
Pollard won tbe prize, a lovely
box of Aalionary. The guerfl's
prize was a beautiful box of cor
respondence cards.
The gueAi^were then shown

It was met with hearty applause,

of the Piqetops Graded School.
Mr. C- L. Owens, who for the

employ of Messrs R. L. Jefferson
& Bros as salesman here, and
one of our inoft prominent
young men, left Sunday morn
ing for J no. Hopkins Hospital,
of Baltimore, M<L, to undergo an
operation. We hope he will im
prove rapidly and soon return
home.

day, May 18th between Fountain
and Pinetops, Fountain was vic
torious by a score of 8 to 5. Jef
ferson on the mound for the
locals, pitched a good game, and
much credit is due him toward
the winning of the - game. The
Pinetops team came feeling con
fident of the game, but began to
