WAR SAVINGS A
DEBT OF HONOR
The sum or money that Nor lb
Carolina has been requested to
raise through War Savings Cer
tificates has been its debt or
b >Lor, a debt which it has been
called on to pay by Decem
ber 31 and which it will wil
lingly do. 1 his* amount became
the State's debt of honor in June
when the people of North Citro
Una gave the Government their
word that they w>i 1 i buy the
State's quota of $48,000 000 by
December 31. The Government
took the people's word as theft
bond and spent the amount in
equiping the boys at the front
and making them more efficient
fighters, thui bringing the war
to a speedy closc. Today, the
? Goverament calls on the pecp'e
of the State to keep their word,
to redeem their War Savings
pledges , and ray back the
amount that has been spent.
T wo conditions alone in North
Carolina assure the State's debt
of honor to be paid by Decem
ber 31. 'I he first is the unques
tionable patriotism of it's citizens
and the second is its great
wealth. This combination will
easily raise the State's entire
War Savings quota and give it a
100 per cent war record.
