After the old Club books bad been traced a number of new ones were selected for the com ing year. JThe Club wHI sell Red Cross Christmas seals as usual this year and the President announced that they had arriv ed. A letter from the Red Cross ? office was read asking ror gifts for the Soldiers and sick nurses at Oteen. The Club decided to make and fill tbe cretone bags as sugge&ed. The new program on "Con temporary Literature," which promises to be very interesting as well .as in?rudfve was begun at this meeting. The fir& paper was on Eugene O'Neil?h^ life, early performances, profes&onal success and plays?was wwiten by Mrs. J. L. Shackleford. Mrs. Walter Sheppard gave a taJk cn Sir James Barrie, another suc cessful playwright, and conclud ed with a Synopsis of "Mary j Bote"' whieh introduces the bit ol spiritism Barrie has recently added to his plots: Mrs. R. T. Merlin's appjhc - / tion was gladly received and her name added 10 the roll. Mrs. W. V. McRae, of New Bern, and Mrs. J. T. Thorne were charming gue^s at ^his meeting. ' After the Club adjourned deli cious refreshments were served by the ho&ess ass&led by Mrs. G A. Jones and Mrs Thomas.' i \ " ? . v ? ?-? v Progressive Bridge Club Gives I.uncbeon. A mo&t delightful bridge luncheon was given by the Pro gressive Bridge Club to its mem bers and a few invited guests at the borne of Mrs. J. W. Joyner Saturday, November 25th. The pue&s were welcomed V " N y. mo& graciously by the ho&esi and the President of the Club, Mrs. W. C. Askew. Vrhe lovely home was effediive ly decorated with quantities^ golden chrysanthemums and j ?autumn foliage. Eight tables of bridge- were arranged. MissTabitha DeVis conti won the firii prize a lovely flower bowl and the lucky win ners of the table prizes-compadl werr: Mrs. Alex By num. Mrs. J. y. Monk, Miss DeVisconti, Miss K. vMoselev. Mrs. Chas. Rotra tree, Mrs-J. IL Dareen. Mrs. P. E.
