BAPTIST CHURCH NOTES
The Baptist Church building will
be removed from present location, be
ginning Monday, February 26. This
is necessary in order to make room
for the new building, which will be
begun early in March.
During the next six months the
congregation will hold all regular
services in the City HalL
- Services this Sunday, February 25,
will be held as usual in the old
building. These will be the last,
marking the end of nearly a third of
a century. The present building was
dedicated October 31, 1909.
All are cordially invited to attend
these last services of worship in the
old building.

Attend Oyster Roast
The Pitt County Fair Association
will entertain members of the Farm
ville and Pitt County posts of the
American Legion at an oyster roast
to be held at the Greenville machine
shop on Clark street Friday night at
7 o'clock.
The two Legion posts sponsor the
Pitt fair and the exposition organi
zation is extending a cordial in
vitation to all members of each post
to attend the oyster roast.

grade, Miss Annie Perkins, teacher,
was declared winner, and in the room
attendance contest the fifth grade,
Miss Geraldine Cameron, teacher, won
with a 99.8 percentage.
Concentrating on the chosen sub
ject of study for the month, "Nation
al Defense," the American Legion
Auxiliary members were privileged
to hear J. Con Lanier, well known
lawyer, of Greenville, present his
views as a world war veteran, at the
meeting held this week in the Legion
hall, with Mrs. W. A. Bobbitt, Sirs.
J alma ?. Bynum and Mrs. J. C.
Brock as joint hostesses. (Mrs. M. V.
Jones was program leader for the
afternoon.
Speaking in strong terms, to which
thoughtful consideration and personal
knowledge lent added force, Mr. La
nier presented the organized lines of
defense in America, pointed to enemy
forces within and without, with which
the government is coping at present,
and discussed at length two courses
which may be taken by countries de
siring world peace; adequate protec
tion as a means of preventing war,
by defense, and disarmament, as a
course of action to prevent war, by
example. The speaker was introduc
ed by Mrs. J. W. Joyner.
Bringing the program to a close
was the rendition of the National'
Hymn and a second selection, "Out
Where the West Begins," by Mrs.
John D. Holmes, with Mrs. M. , V.
