;A COLD DAY IN JUNE
There are any number of per
sons in Pitt county who have
promised to do certain things on
the first "cold day in June."
We call attention to this be
cause the way the weather is
behaving in 1940 it looks like
we will have a cold day in June.
: YOUR FELLOW MEN
The "Other fellow" will prob
ably prove to be a fairly "pleas
ant cuss" when you get to
now him better.
Consequently, if you have a
yen for improving human be
ing, it might be a good idea
to start the work by under
standing your fellow men. The
more you learn about the aver
age man the higher is your
opinion of the human race.
NATIONAL MARITIME DAY
President Roosevelt has pro
claimed May 22nd as Nation
al Maritime Day to commem
orate the first trip across the
ocean by a ship propelled by
steam. It was on May 22, 1819,
that the Savannah steamed out
of- Savannah, Georgia, on its
epoch-making voyage.
The idea of the President is
that the people of the United
States should recognize the
courage, vision and achieve
ments of American ships and
men. It is to be hoped that
some landlubbers will take time
off and seek to understand the
vital importance of an adequate
merchant marine.
-There are citizens of this
country who have no idea that
they are affected by the mer
chants ships of the United
States. They do not realize that
their every day life is inter
twined with the shipment of
goods and products in ocean
going vessels. It is time that
our people, as a nation, learn
this fact.
NOTE OF APPRECIATION
We deeply appreciate every wonl
and act of sympathy extended ns by
oar friends daring oar bereavement

Wty "Build-up" Helps
Will Interest Women
The cause of a woman's periodic
suffering from headache, irritabil
ity, cramp-like pain, may be func
tional dysmenorrhea due to malnu
trition, a condition that is often
helped by CABDUL
Principal way CABDUI helps is
by stimulating appetite and the flow
of gastric juices. Thus it may aid
digestion; help build up a woman's
strength, energy and nerve-force;
so increase physical resistance to
periodic discomfort
It also helps reduce periodic dis
tress for many who take it a few
days before and during "the time."
Your confidence in CARDUI is in
vited by its 50 years of popularity.
