H M. Wilson had charge of the medita tion period, and the business sessior was conducted by Mrs. R. LeRoy Rollins. . , Mrs. I* F. Williford, secretary, re ported the recent meeting of the exe cutive committee;: Mrs. Claude L Barrett, stated that the pssociatioc has a balance of $245.48,- in her re port as treasurer, and Supt J. H, Moore told of 18 trees having beer transplanted on the sehool grounds in observance of Founder's Day. The room-roll-call contest was wen by the third grade, Miss Margaret Lewis, teacher. The president presented Master Robert Pollard, winner of the recent county declaration-recitation con test, who gave his prize winning reci tation, "When Johnnie Gtowb Up." After this the huge birthday cake, was set aglow by the lighting of the 44, candles by Boots Thomas, and Mrs. Cherry Easley, program chair man, announced the further observ ance of the day in the presentation of the pageant, "As Told By Candles," which was enacted by members of the Dramatics Club un der the direction of Miss Ellen Lyles. Following this, Miss Annie Perkins recounted the incidents leading up to the organization of the P. T. A., and traced its history in an interesting talk. Members and visitors enjoyed a social hour together, at which time delicious refreshments were served. The program of the Junior Wom an's Club was featured with a splen did discourse on "Modern American Poets" by Mrs. P. W. Pickelsuner, of Greenville. Mrs. Pickelsimer sketch ed the lives and works of Robert Frost, Carl Sandburg, Vachel Lind sey, Allan Siegar and Florence Evans and read poems depicting their style. In conclusion she read Poe's "Anna belle Lee." The guest speaker was presented by Mrs. John Wilkerson. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. J. M. Wheleps with Mrs. C. M. Paylor and Mrs. Bob V. Fiser as hostess, Mrs. J. *Leroy Parker presiding. Mrs. Jesse Moye was ap pointed as the club's teacher of "Primer for Americans," which will be taught in a study course, to be sponsored by the federated clubs here. Delicious refreshments were served after adjournment Special guests were Mrs. J. M. Wheless, Jr., Mrs. Chester Outland, Mrs. Bryan Gaddy and Miss Frances Beaman. A delightful meeting of the Merry Matrons was held with Mrs, R. A. Fields on Tuesday. Early spring flowers were in effective arrange ments throughout the home. The business session was presided over by Mrs. R. LeRoy Rollins, at which time Mrs. Joel Moye was elect ed to serve as secretary. The guest speaker of the afternoon, Mrs. Jesse Moye, presented a highly, interesting review of current happenings in the United States! During: the pleasant social hour (he hostess, assisted by her daughter, Mrs. John E. King, served a marsh" mallow salad course with coffee. Special guests were .Mrs. King, Mrs. Jesse Moye, Mrs. Marvin Y. Self and Mrs. G. A. Jones. The 'American Legion Auxiliary: held an interesting meeting in the Legion hall with Mrs. A. W. Bobbitt, Mrs. J. 0. Brock and Mrs. J. E. By num as hostesses. The hall was deco rated with a quantity of hawthjorne and a miniature cherry tree. Mrs. S. A. Gerris presided and tjeanT reports from the treasurer, Mrs. Louise D. Harris, and the pub licity chairman, Mrs. J. E. Bynum. Mw. B. B. Fields, in charge of the program for the afternoon, presented Mrs. W. M. Willis, who spoke on the subject of "Americanism and Nation al Defense." Mis. Willis announced a recent gift of a flpg and pole to If* Ffcrmville high, school by the local America* Legion Post and the Auxiliary. Mrs, B, F. Weaver, road a selection, "Women In War," which emphasised the hferors of conflict and the im portant part women can take to the striving for universal peace. In the period, devoted to business, the regent reminded chapter mem bers of the State Conference to be held in Wilson March 4-6. Mrs. Rob eraon was extended a cordial welcome upon her return to the chapter, and Miss Payne Sugg, a new member, was warmly received. A patriotic program was develop ed by Mrs. Marvin Y. Self, who dis cussed George Washington in the light of a Christian gentleman, and by Miss Paulyne Stroud, who, accom panied by Mrs. Haywood Smith, sang "God Bless America," "George Wash ington," and "A Heart That's After adjournment the' hostess served a delectable salad course.^ The national colors were effective ly carried in decorations of red car nations,' white snapdragons and Dutch iris, used by Mrs. Billy R. Burke as ft floral setting for a meet ing of the New Deal Club, held in her home, Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Henrietta M. Williamson won the club prize, a crystal plate, and Mrs. W. E.
