ONLY A MATTER OP TIME Grand Admiral Erich Rader has laid Germany's "sea cards on the table," declaring that American con voys for England will be met by the guns of the German navy if neces sary. Germany, he says, will hold the use of such convoys to be an act of war. Moreover^ no one can expect a German commander to stand by idly when his position is reported to the enemy by an American war ship. The German commander, in such cases, faces an actual warlike act, is justified in demanding cessa tion of the hostile act and is justified in enforcing it with arms. The President of the United States has insisted that the United States will see that necessary'supplies are ' delivered to the British. It is perfectly obvious that, unless one side or the other is bluffing, it is just a matter of time before hos tilities begin. NO FOOLISHNESS Secretary of State Cordeil Hull says that Germany is seeking, by threats, to induce the United States to refrain any real efforts at self defense. The French^ it Mens, is playing .. the German game by reassuring the United States that they win never surrender their fleet, or their colon ies to Germany. As long as Ger man bayonets are at the threat of France, however, French assurances should be taken with large supplies ' at sah; ; ?' ? But there was one ride he wont ever forget At Kelly Field, while in flying costume with a parachute strapped to his back, he was invited to take a ride in one of the Army's newest pur suit planes. . Milland accepted with alacrity, and up they went After sailing around a while, the motor started to cough1 complainingly. The pilot told Ray they, were running out of gas* and might have to bail out Raypatted his parachute with a sigh of relief. But in the next I moment, the Army pilot said it wouldn't be necessary to bail oqt be cause he had succeeded in tapping fuel from a reserve gas tank. . When they landed, Milland was asked by a movie "prop" man if he had had a nice ride. "Well, yes/' said Milland, "but I almost had to use my parachute, be cause we were running out of gat" The "prop" man fainted dead away, for Milland was wearing an imitation "prop" parachute that , never would have opened!
