The marriage united two of the most prominent families in, this sec I tion of the State, and the Church was [ filled with the large assemblage of {relatives and friends.: "? On either side of the [ altar, arched trellises, entwined with [ lilies and fern, formed U background [for the cathedral candles in tall [ standards. Floor baskets held white [gladiolius and more than a hundred [ candles extending across the organ, outlining the altar rail and arri^||fl ed in the side windows gave a stfitl [glow to the nuptial scene. A prelude of wedding music was [played by Mrs. Haywood Smith, or [ganigt. Albert Coy Monk attended his{ son as beat man. ^ The bride entered the church with her father, Thomas Eli Joyner, hV whom she was given in marriage. She wore a lovely wedding dress of Magnolia satin fashioned with a high round collar of Irish crochet lace. The fitted bodice was edged with the same lace and self covered buttons extended from the collar in front to the waistline. The sleeves, which were puffed at the shoulders, were close fitting from the elbow to the wrist and ended in a point over the hands. The full skirt fell from the waist into a long full train. The veil of illusion was in three tiers and the face veil fell fingertip length from a coronet of orange ..blossoms. The bride's bouquet was of white orchids and stephanotis. Her only ornament was a string of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom. Mrs. W. B. Bullock, of Bur lington, was nuttryn of honor,- and Miss Verona Lee Joyner attended her sitter as maid of honor. They were attired in gowns of white-marquisette over taffeta designed ' in bouffant style. The tucked bodice, fashioned with a high round neck, was finished-' with ruffles and had short puffed sleeves. The skirt was full and finished with ruffles and had a slight train. . Mrs. Monk, a young woman of charm and personality, is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Thornag Eli Joy ner, of Farmville. She waa graduat ed from Woman's College, Greens boro, in the class of '39, and has since taught in the Hugh Morsoh High School, m Raleigh. ? Mr. Monk is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coy Monk, of Farm ville. He was graduated from Dar lington Preparatory School, Rome, Ga., attended Duke University, Dur ham, and Strayer Business College, Washington, D. C. He is associated with the firm of - A. C. Monk & Co., Inc., of Farmville, in which' he holds the position of assistant treasurer. Prior to the ,wedding rehearsal Tuesday evening, Miss Betty Joyner and Miss Gereldine Gardner enter tained at a buffet supper at the Country Club in honor of the bridal party and out of town guests. The colors of red, white and blue were effectively used in the floral decorations of the clubhouse, with red and white.gbadiolius and Queen Anne's lace predominating. The cen terpiece of the table was an arrange ment of ted roses, gyaophelia,. sweet peas and blue candles. The auxiliary tables bore blue candles banked with red and white flowers as centers. Guests were met as"; they arrived by the hostesses. Miss Elizabeth Lang and Miss Margaret Lewis serv ed tomato juiee -cocktail. Mrs. John B. Joyner served a salad from -the table. She was assisted in serving by Mrs. Berthb Gardner, Mrs. T. W. Lang, Mrs. R, A. Joyner, and Miss Lillian White Gardner. Fpllowing the rehearsal Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coy Monk entertained at a cake cutting. The spacious Monk home was decorated with a variety of garden flowers with, gladi olius predominating. A color scheme of green and white was used in the dining room, where the thrfee tiered wedding cake was the center of in terest. The traditional .favors were found in the cake. . On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Gates were hosts at a lovely buffet supper honoring Miss Joyner and Mr. Monk. Mips Paulyne Stroud, of Kington; and Mr. Max Frederick Junes, of Staunton, Va., bride and bridegroom elect, shared honors on this occasion. The dining table- was spread with i '? ? i. i i mi . a Chinese cutwork and filet cloth and centered with an arrangement cf white gladiolius, snapdragons, Queen Anne's lace, feverfew, and daisies in a crystal bowl. White candles were in crystal holders. Mrs. M. V. Jones and Mrs. JE. C. Holmes served vegetable and stuffed tomato salads, ham'and chicken from the table. Assisting in serving a variety of pickles, rolls, and iced tea were Nancy Gates, her house guest. LlHian Talton, of Asheville, Jean. Hockman and Wilma Stansill. Tees v?ere in the bridal motifs and the cup calces carried the colors of green and white. Plate decorations were gar denias. The bridet' table bore lovely and appropriate appointments -and their : ' places were marked with coreagb* of gardenias. Covers were laid for twenty four guests. The hostess .presented Miss Joyaer with flat sil ver in her pattern and Mis* Stroud with a silver covered dish.
