led a discussion of plans for a home
talent play, "Bubbling Over," which
is to be presented at an early date

welcome to Mrs. E. N. Pettaway, Mrs.
Robert Monk and Mrs. Billy Willis,
who Were presented as new members
at this time.

tor of "The Clubwoman," gave an
interesting report of the recent coun
cil and institute meeting held in Ral
eigh.
Announcement was made of the
club's decision to act as grade mother
for one of the primary grades in the
local school Bin. Mabrey Polloard
discussed an article writfcen~by Mrs.
Whitehurst on National Defense.
Following this Mrs. Curtis Flanggan
gave a splendid review of the book,
"Random Harvest," by James Hil
ton.
After adjournment the hostess
served delicious refreshments. Special
guests were Mrs. Bonnie Allen, Mrs.
Tony Melton, Mrs. Linwood; Joyner,
Mrs. Frank Williams and Mfs. Frank
Lindsay.

Members of the Contract Club en
joyed a morning amies of progres
sions on Tuesday, with Mrs. Z. M.
Whitehurst as hostess. The home of
the hostess with its lovely arrange
ments of gladioli, dahlias, .roses,
marigolds and ager&tum, provided a
colorful setting. .

Lang's 4-H Club , held Its regular
monthly meeting Friday evening with
Miss Peggy Jones as hostess. This
meeting was reported w the most
successful the dub base held this fall
in relation to 'attendance and the
large number of members enrolled.
Following the budnfess session, the
girls and boys separated to discuss
projects with Miss Kirby in charge
of the former and Mr. Griggs the
latter.
Miss Kirby discussed bed room im
provement and stressed its import
ance in view of its being a girl's pri
vate sanctuary.
The girls and boys reassembled for
a pleasant social hour during which
icet cream and cakes were'sferved.
