She stressed the need for study in the family circle and in neighborhood groups and stated that "this is the Crusade of the 20th Century in which everyone must enlist, unless the people, internationally speaking, wish a few wilful men to write the peace so dearly won." Mrs. Humber concluded by reading a Meditation on America." Miss Eunice McGee introduced the guest speaker, who was presented with a corsage by the hostesses. Mrs. G. Alex Rouse, first vice regent, presided; Mra M. V. Jones led the singing ed£ "America"; Miss Tabitha DeViscontf the Salute to the Flag, and Mrs. C. S. Eagles gave a meditation based on Madame Chiang Kai Shek's confession of fai^h in the Christian religion. Mrs. M. V. Jones gave an account of the visit which she and Mrs. P. E. Jones made to Camp Lejeune in behalf of the Chapter during the holidays. Misses Anne Jones and Jane Greene accompanied them and assisted in dispensing cheer and in distributing gifts from the members to wounded service men. ' " In a brief talk, th6 presiding officer offered as a drum call to advance in 1944 "Freedom From Debt," and urged that this organization join in the supreme effort being made throughout the allied world to bring Victory this year, and in addition, to sec that the indebtedness on the Chapter House is entirely removed. Pollard served decorated cakes from either end of the table, which bore also cheese straws, dainty sandwiches, date and walnut cookies, chicken salad puffs, mints and nuts. Morgan was a gracious hostess on Tuesday afternoon, entertaining the Merry Matrons at her home, which waa decorated with pansies, Japanese quince and potted plants. Mrs. R. A. Fields presided and thanked members who served aa hostesses at the Service Men's Club during the week end. Miss Annie Perkins was guest speaker and discussed "Propaganda" in an able and interesting manner. An apple salad in pink camelia design, sand tarts, cheese biscuit, ham biscuit, cookies, home made candy, nuts and coffee were served during a pleasant social hour.
