Dennis Mercer, *a| Mrs. Bill Walker presented a delight ful program. / The first grade had charge of the devotional. Stanley Fulfer recited the 28nl Psalm, and Elisabeth Smith gave the Lord's Prayer. The class than sang hymns. The first grade girls sang a lullaby to their dolls. The second grade gave a musical short; "The little Monkeys." The scenery brought to life the junglee. Fhose taking part were S&llie Baker, reader, Monkeys, Aileen Morris, Joyce Bell, and Gladys Williams, Parrot, Patricia little; and Elephant, Peggy Tyson. The following "culled" ladies lamented their "Coontown Trouble," Catie Norman, Martha H. Johhnson, Geraldine Ayers, Fay Moore and Barbara Dilda. The Third Grade gave a health program on Good Eat ing Habits. Each child was dressed as a vegetable, fruit, milk or bread. Rev. West gave a short talk on the importance and pleasure of reading. He emphasised tee Bible, dictionary, and English Grammar. He also brought out the need for children to have books on their own reading level in the home. Over two hundred were present. CLAUDE FIELDS BUI J ED WEDNESDAY Claude Fields, a colored citisen, held in highest respect and regard here, was laid to rest, Wednesday, after a long illness, moat of which was spent in Duke Hospital. Durham, where he underwent treatment, and finally succumbed to fatal complica tions. Fields was a faithful employee of A C. Monk A Co., for many years end a number of the officials of the firm were in attendance at the funer al held from the Free Will Baptist Church, of which he was a loyal member.
