GARDEN CLUB The May meeting: of the Garden Club, with Mrs. C. H. Monaco aa gracious hostess, was held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Melton Allen, which was lovely with artistic arrangements of summer flowers. The president,- Miss Tabitha M. DeVisconti, presided sad told of a request from the N. C. Federation of Women's Clubs for dress materials to be sent overseas for Greek Relief. Mrs. E. F. Gaynor, program chair man for the afternoon, discussed "When and How to Mulch," saying that mulching keeps the plants damp, the soil from baking, helps to fertilise and keeps weeds down. She also spoke of the late Walter B. Shaw's nine acre water lily gard en, The Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, five miles from Washington, D. C., telling how it grew from a hobby into profitable business. Eight yean, ago Mr. Shaw's , daughter sold the gardens to the Interior Department and they are now a part of Anacoetia Park. Members were told how they too can have a water lily garden, even if it is only a wooden tub. , Miss DeVisconti, speaking on the subject, "Much Bloom in Little Space," explained how to have color all summer, real splashes where they count most. During the refreshment hour the hostess, assisted by her daughter, served cream, cake and salted nuts. Mn. Paul Allen, Jr., was welcomed as a new member. CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Johnnie Windham, attractive son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Windham, celebrated his fourth anniversary, Tuesday, with a party, to which six teen of his little playmates were in vited. Games were played in the house, prior to serving refreshments. Guests were invited into the din ing room for the cutting of the gleaming pink and white birthday cake, which was served with ice cream. The table was spread with a lace cloth and pink flowers were ar ranged about the cake, which was used as a centerpiece. ATTENTION MEMBERS OF FARMYILLE COUNTRY CLUB| The Golf Tournament scheduled to be completed today with a supper for all members of the club and their families planned for tonight has been POSTPONED, due to weather condi tions throughout the playing time and other circumstances beyond con trol of committee in charge.
