CLUB PARTY One of the loveliest socials of the I midsummer calendar was the dub party, of Wednesday, when Mrs. W. Alex Allen charmingly entertained members of her bridge club and addi tional friends, Mrs. T. Eli Joyner, Jr. Mm Richard D. Harris, Misses Elisa beth and Bertha Lang, Mm Frank K. Allen and Mrs. James Wheless, Jr., at her home on West Church street. A profusion of pink carnations, j gladioli, snapdragons, zinnias, blue | hydrangeas and feverfew were used in effective decoration to% carry a | color note of pink, blue and White. Refreshments, consisting of devil's I food cake, molded ices, salted nuts and fruit punch were served prior to the games, the tables being spread I with snowy cloths and centered with | pink roses in silver vases. Mrs A. C. Monk, Jr., and Mm. T. Eli Joyner, Jr., compiled high scores for club members and guests and re ceived blue goblets in antique glass pattern. LEGION AUXILIARY MEETS j The American Legion Auxiliary met in the Legion Hall, Thursday after noon, at 3:90 o'clock, with Mies Mamie Davis, the president, presiding. In the absence of the Miss Davis conducted the devotional. Which was followed by the -pledge of alleg iance and the singing of the national anthem. During a brief business session, reports from ths standing and special committees were heard. ... The highlight of the meeting was the talk, given by Miss Sybil Barrett, the Auxiliary's representative to Girls State, held in Greensboro, last week. Miss Barrett gave an interesting and informative account of her experience there, revealing that she had gained much valuable knowledge of the prin ciples of government She told also of attending a tea at the Governor's mansion, in Raleigh, and a luncheon at State College. Miss Davis expressed the Auxil iary's pride and gratification in hav ing such a splendid representative at the Girls State's session. The hostesses of the afternoon, Mrs. Joe H. Moore, Mrs. E. L. May and Mrs. Haywood Smith, served chicken salad ^sandwiches and frosted glasses of iced tea, garnished with lemon. PLANNING BOARD MEETS The Community Planning Board met in regular session, Tueeday eve ning. Subjects' under discussion included the need for adequate bus station and hotel dining -room facilities, and the lining of reel estate for sale. R. A. Joyner, city clerk, announced that the zoning ordinance had been completed and would be submitted to citizens at a mass meeting to be called soon and upon favorable' action would be turned over to the Town Aldermen. It was noted that Farmville is listed to benefit from 'Federal funds in the matter of establishment of an airport here, if desired. This involves an ex penditure of $80,000 by local author ities to match a similar Federal ex penditure. 1 The July meeting of this group, the last of the fiscal year, will be one of reorganization. It was a small scale flower pfcow, with gladioli, dahlias, petunias, cape jasmine, deedemonia, nasturtiums, sweetpeas, two vases of mixed flow en and a corsage, which was pre sented to Miss Joyner at the conclu sion Of the program. The meeting closed with an oral flower contest Refreshments were served from the dining room table, which was center ed with a lovely bowl of pink sWeet peas.
