NO IMPROVEMENT EXPECTED
IN FERTILIZER SUPPLY
+ '
The pdtash supply available to
North Carolina fanners during the
next fertilizer season may be slight
ly less than during the 1944-45 crop
year, superphosphate is now running
short of demand, and nitrogen is ex
pected to be placed under Govern
ment allocation soon to' guarantee
equity in distribution throughout the
nation, according to J. W. Wizeman,
chief of the Civilian Production Ad
ministration's Inorganics Branch,
who spoke to agricultural leaders,
farmers, and representatives of the
fertilizer industry in Raleigh recent
ly at a conference called to consider
fertilizer grades to be recommended
for adoption at the next meeting of
the State Board of Agriculture.
Declaring that Die world supply of
nitrogen is approximately 1 million
tons less than the need, Wizeman em
phasized that the War Department
is now laying plans to send larger
quantities of nitrogen to countries
under U. S. occupation forces.
Wizeman attributed the relative
shortage of superphosphate to the
inavailability of phosphate rosk and
sulphuric acid, adding that "Midwest
newcomers" in the use of potash
will absorb large quantities of in
creased production of this fertilizer
material.

SNOW HILL SEEKS BETTER
PHONE SERVICE
--r'. ' I
Elsewhere in this issue is an
editorial clipped from the Snow Hill
Standard Laconic which laments the
passing of efficient telephone service
and minces no words hi its criticism
of owning companies for failure to
provide better facilities.
Through its civic organisations,
Farmville has taken a step toward
obtaining the relief needed end tele
phone companies have manifested
interest in the complaint by stating
that attempts are being made to
remedy the situation. Farmville,
however, should not let the matter
drop until the improvements become
an actuality, not just blue prints or
glowing promises.-j
