BIRD NOTES The Dipper was the bird study at Saturday's meeting and Charles Allen the reader. This bird is eight in ches long and in coloration plain gray on brown predominates with darker crown and paler on chin and throat. The sexes are alike in color. The head, neck and body are cover ed with down and the plumage is very dense and soft, which enables it to go under water without getting wet. The Dipper is a water lover. The nest, a structure of green moss, is placed near water, usually behind a waterfall, and is kept green by the spray, which constantly moistens it. If it dries out the birds sprinkle it themselves by diving in the water, then going to the top of the nest and shaking themselves violently. They feed on the small insects, which live under water, and are as much at home there as other birds are in the air. They can walk on the bottom with swift, running water over their heads and can really fly under water, using their wings as they do in the air. The Dipper is a song bird and sings all winter, never minding the cold weather. He flies about in the snow, dives under the ice, and comes out at an airhole, as jolly and lively as if it were summertime. Bobbie Joyn6r was a guest and Bob Harper was welcomed as a new member at this time. Aftef a period of games, candy was enjoyed by all. Next Saturday, at 10:00 o'clock, the members will gp on a hike and picnic. 1 WW you're ing. for I YOUR NEW !FORD! C? "ST ran ?? Btrtt* toil br?nq trrod?' A -in price with service from vour dealer .
