A buffet supper was given by Mr.
and Mrs. R. G. Fields, Sunday night,
honoring Mrs. Oscar Bailey and
daughter, Jane, at Lexington, Vs.

The Christian Missionary Society
met with Mrs. J. C. Gardner, Friday
afternoon with Mrs. Irey Smith as
program leader. After a most in
spiring program presented by Mrs.
Goin: Mrs. R. G. Fields, and Mrs.
Smith, the meeting wss turned over
to the president, Mrs. W. E. Lang.
At the end of the business session
the hostess, assisted by her daugh
ter-in-law, Mrs. Jimmie Gardner,
served a delicious plate of ice cream,
cakes and nuts.

ard-Herring Hospital.

at his home here, after attending
summer school at Duke.
Mrs. W. E. Lang went to More
head and Cherry Point Sunday after
noon.
Miss Lucille Yelverton, of Foun
tain, and Miss Nancy Pruden, of
Wilson, visited friends and relatives
near town Sunday.
Mrs. D. D. Fields and daughters,
Margaret and Ann, have returned
home after a visit to relatives in
Winchester, Va.

Mrs. John Craft entertained Fri
day night vtith a shower, honoring
her daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Craft,
Jr., a recent bride. After several cog
tests, a delicious salad course was
served. Around 76 guests were ha
attendance.
The Sunday School of the Christian
Church held its annual picnic Thurs
day afternoon. After an hour of
swimming, a bounteous supper was
spread.
Most modern conveniences were in
vented and bought by men, on their
own initiative, to lighten women's
work.
What small matters -people quar
rel over, as a rule. Even organized
groups show curious lack of discrim
ination in this respect.
