" ? Supper Club Beautiful magnolias and' yellow tapers banked the mantels of the Country Club Saturday evening, when Mr. and Mrs. Frank K. and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis W. Allen were gracious hosts to the members of the Supper Club and special guests. A delicious supper, consisting of fried chicken, sweet potatoes, green peas, relishes and rolls, was served followed by individual lemoq pies. The tables, with places laid for four, bore attractive, individual appoint ments and yellow candles were used to shed a soft jflow . Mecry Matrons A delightful meeting of the Merry Matrons was held, Tuesday, in the home of Mr*. ?L G. Gardner with Mrs. R. A. Fields as the gracious hostess. Zinnias, marigolds, dahlias and pot ted plants were used as a setting. Mn. A. W. Bobbitt presided over a brief business session, prior to the presentation of Mrs. A. C. Monk, Sr., who was program leader. Mrs. Monk introduced as guest speaker, Mis. Eli Joyner, Jr., who related her experiences as a Red Crow worker during the late war. Practically all of her 18 months of service were spent overseas and she gave in de tail the many hardships encountered In New Guinea, her first assignment her second assignment of duty took her into Sidney, Australia, a cosmo politan city, which may be compared to San Fruhdsco. From there rite went to Brisbane and worked with the 42nd General Hospital Unit 31 described the natives as quaint aris tocratic and carefree. She stated that a sense of humour was a "must" in this type of work. The speaker exhibited many unique and interest ing souvenirs. During the social hour, which fol lowed, Mrs. Joyner was kept busy answering questions pertaining to ber work and various countries. Mrs. E. R. Clegg, another visitor, shared with Mrs. Joyner the pleas ures of the evening. At the close of the program, ice cream, topped with strawberries, and Individual decorated cakes were serv ed and followed by demi-tasse and cookies. ' ^ Mrs. Burke Hostess mj Mrs. Earl Blanton, of Moultrie, Ga., house guest of Mrs. J. T. Wind ham, was honored at a lovely party given Wednesday morning by Mrs. W. R. Burke in her home, which was beautiful with daisies, zinnias, roses and ageratum. Refreshment covers of yellow and lavender were laid on the tables which held hostess plates containing ham biscuits, cheese pumpkins, ai sorted sandwiches, potato chips, devil ed eggs and pickles. Iced coca-colas were placed on grape leaves used J coasters. A lovely corsage of fall flowers, tied with vari-colored ribbon, marked the place of the honor guest and the hostess later presented her with crystal ash tray. Mrs. Burke was hostess again in the afternoon to friends for two tables of bridge. A congealed fruit salad in pumpkin designs, Black Susan cheese sand wiches, potato chips, and pickles were served with hot spiced tea. High'Score prize, a crystal ash tray, was won by Mrs. John Hornsby, of Shelbyville, Ky.; low score, Mexican pottery vases, by Mrs. Lanier Don nell; the floating prizes, vases, by Mrs. David Harris and Mrs. Allen Drake. Lamrad Club J Members ot the Lamrad Club and a special guest, Mrs. Yancey Bailee, of Horse CaVjs, Ky., enjoyed a de lightful afternoon of bridge with Mrs. Irvin Morgan, Jr., as their hoet ess. Mrs. J. Y. Monk scored high. Iced coca-colas, ddinty sandwiches, potato chips, candies and pickles were served after the games.
