Every One Registered Urged To Vote Nov. 5 Raleigh, Oct. 31.?Expressing the hope that the Democratic vote at the General Election on November 5 will be the greatest ever recorded, Wil liam B. Umstead, Chairman of the State Democratic Executive Com mittee, today urged .every citizen to go to the polls and vote the straight Democratic ticket next Tuesday. "The Democratic party has demon strated that .it is the party of sound and progressive government in North Carolina," declared Mr. Umstead in his statement. "The Democratic party in the nation has stood for the rights of free men. Humanitarian government has come about under Democratic administration, and the people during the years the Demo cratic party has been in power have made more advances in wages, farm incomes, social benefits and in other ways than ever before in the history of the nation. Umstead invited all young people and returned soldiers to enter active ly into participation in the affairs of the state by voting the Democratic ticket next Tuesday. He asserted that "the Democratic party offers them the best means in North Caro lina whereby they may participate in molding the affairs of the state and adding their contribution to good and progressive government for the peo ple of the Commonwealth as a whole." State College Answers Timely Farm Questions Question: When should we try to market our turkeys? Answer: Now that the supply of meat is short, C. F. Parrish of State College, in charge of Extension Poul try, says that turkey growers should Tnake every effort possible to process and sell all turkeys that are ready for market. He thinks that the price will probably be better now than later, when, the supply of meat is more plentiful. Question: What about whole milk sales in future years? Answer: *John Arey of State Col lege, in charge of Extension Dairy ing, says that we are not beginning to supply the actual milk needs in the cities and towns and on the farms. He believes that many people are just beginning to drink milk and that the demand will increase. He points to some interesting figures presented by the 1946 U. S. Census. Milk produc tion has increased about 70 per cent in North Carolina during the last 26 years and yet sales of whole milk have gone up 700 per cent of that sold in 1920. Surveys show that diets can be greatly improved through a wider use of milk and its products. Question: Will cyanamid control both diseases and weeds on tobacco plant beds. Answer: Cyanamid alone is used for weed control but the State College Extension Service recommends a mix ture of uranon and cyanamid for con trol of both diseases and weeds in per plant bed sites.
