Monk was hostess to her bridge club, Wednesday, in her home which was artistically decorat ed with pansies and jonquils. The club high award, a milk glass compote, was received by Mrs. Harry | Harper; Mrs. C. S. Hotchkiss, scor ing high for guests, was awarded- a double deck of cards. A novelty went to Mrs. X. George Moore, Jr., for low score. A princess salad, ham biscuits, pickles, crackers and iced tea were srved to the members and special gruests, Mrs. Hotchkiss, Mrs. Allen Darden, and Mrs. R. D. Harris. Mrs. Darden, a recent bride, was remem bered with a gift by the hostess. MERRY MATRONS "Why You Have a Family Name" and "The Romance of the Goat of Arms" were discussed by Mrs. W. R. Willis in her talk before the Merry Matrons, Tuesday. Mrs. A. W. Bob bitt presided ever the meeting which was held in the home of Mrs. I* E. Walston. During the cere mony rite played To a Wild Rose by MacDowell, and the traditional wed ding marches were used. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white slipper satin, fashioned with a sweet heart neckline and embroidered with seed pearls. The skirt was made princess style and extended into a train. The long sleeves were point ed, Her full length veil of illusion fell from a coronet of seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of white ca mellias. Miss Dorothy Smith, attending her sister as maid of honor, vtore a gown of pink marquisette and carried an arm bouquet of carnations, sweet peas and gladioli. The matron of honor, Mrs. Rich ard L. Welsh, of Baltim'ore Md., wore a dress of blue marquisette, identi cal to that of the maid 'of honor. Her arm bouquet was of snapdragons and gladioli. Richard W. Carroll, of Alexandria, Va., was best man. The ushers were Richard L. Welsh, of Baltimore, Md., L. L. Kinkel, of Mt Ranier, Md., Joseph Joyner and Bernice Turn age, of Farmville. Mrs. Smith, mother of the bride, was attired in a dress of sheer blgck crepe, with a yoke embroidered in pink beaded roses. She used pink accessories and her corsage 'was of pink roses. Mrs. Susan Walker, of Beltpville, Md., aunt of the bridegroom, wore a black suit with black and white mid at her shoulder was white carnations. >r, daughter of Mr. and id Smith, of Farmville, from Farmville high school. After her graduation from Duke university in 1942, she taught in the Weldon schools for two years. For the past'three yean she has been employed by the Department of Jus tice in Washington, D. C. Mr. Rector is the son of Roiier R. Rector, of Washington, D. C., and is a graduate of the Univemity of Maryland. He served with the Navy in the Pacifie for five yean with the rating of lieutenant, junior grade. Since returning to the States he has been employed as an -engineer by the District of Columbia. For traveling the bride changed to a suit of steel gray gabardine with blade accessories. MM Buffet Miss Dorothy Smith entertained at a buffet supper at her home Friday evening preceding the rehearsal for the bridal couple and the out-of town guests. The dining table spread with a cutwork cloth and centered with an arrangement of white flowers and candles. Coffee was poured by Mrs. E. S. Powell, of Reidsville. Cake Cutttog Mrs. Arch and Mrs. Curtis Flana gan honored the bridal party and out-of-town guests at a cake cutting following the rehearsal, Friday even ing, at the home of the former. Carrying out the traditional colors of green ami white, snapdragons, gladioli, carnations, stocks and sweet peas were used throughout the re ception rooms. The dining ropm table bote a white hand crocheted cloth and an arrangement of candles and flowers. Mrs. 'Royal Stephenson, of Raleigh, aunt of the bride, was seated at one end of the table and served ice cream. The. cake was served from the other end by Miss Dorothy Wilson, of Durham, another aunt of the bride. Missee Elvira.! Tyson, Gayle, Sue and Clara Belle Flanagan and Becky Wilson, of Dur ham, assisted in serving nuts and mints. Several showers and dinner parties were given for the bride in Wash ington, D. C? before her arrival here for the wedding. HOME CEREMONY UNITES MISS WILKERSON, MR. TICKNER In an impressive ceremony Satur day at 12:80 o'clock, Miss Harel Wilkerson, of Newport News, Vs., formerly of Farmville, was united in marriage with Frank Edward Hek ner, of Newport News, at "Rondell," the home of the bride's brother, John Erwin Wilkerson, near Farmville. Rev. Key W. Taylor, pastor of the] Walstonburg Methodist Church, of ficiated. The vows were spoken in rite living room before an improvised altar of tall baskets of yellow snap dragons and lighted yellow candles. A program of nuptial music was presented t>y Mrs. A. Q. Roebuck, pianist, and Miss Betty Rose Wilker son, niece of the bride, soloist. Mrs. Roebuck played A Love Dream by Liszt;'and Love's Greeting by Elgar. Schubert's Serenade was softly play ed during the ceremony. Miss Wil kerson sang I Love Thee by Greig. The bride and groom entered to gether unattended. The bride wore a suit of light beige with black ac cessories, a beige hat and at her Bhoulder, a purple orchid. Her only ornament was an heirloom- broach, which belonged to her maternal grandmother. Mrs. Wilkerson, mother of the bride, wore a black dress and her corsage was of red roses.
