WALSTONBUBG ... NEWS... Mr. and Hn. H. G. Good, of Wil liamsburg, Vs., visited Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Hicks, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Fields spent last week end visiting relatives in Beaufort and Morehead City. Mit Earl Lang and daughter, Gar tens, are visiting Mrs. Lang's par rents, Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Davis, in Windsor. Mrs. Sal lie Mercer, of Rocky Mount, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Har vey Mercer this week. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Bailey were Cbcto, of OU* of Mias Roddick's parents during the week end. Miae Elisabeth Shirley, of Wilson, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shirley. Mrs. W. I. Shackleford^ has re tained to her home after visiting relatives-in Norfolk. Va. Mrs. L J. Rouse has retained home from a visit with her daughter, Miss Ramona, a student in Greensboro College, Greenehoro. in Mrs. W. A. Marlowe and Mrs. C. T. Beam on spent Friday in Raleigh. Miss Julia Maris Taylor, of ?Un tonsburf, spent Sunday with Miss Aim Hicks. Miss Rnth Tugwell has resumed her studies kt Flora MacDonald Col lege after spending the spring holi days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sain Tugwell. A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE TOWN OF FOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA, TO REQUIRE THE LAYING OF SIDEWALKS UPON AND ALONG SAID STREETS AND PORTION OF STREET OF THE TOWN OF FOUNTAIN UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 9, CHAPTER 190 OF THE GEN ERAL STATUTES OF NORTH CAROLINA (1945). WHEREAS, the Board of Commis sioners of the Town of Fountain, North Carolina, have determined and found as a fact, after due investiga tion and consideration, that the pub lic interest requires the laying- of sidewalks upon anA along the Streets and portions of streets of said Town hereinafter designated and that 9ueh local improvements should be made under the provisions of Article 9, Chapter 160 of the General Statutes of North Carolina; Now, therefore, BE IT AND IT IS HERE BY RESOLVED by the Board of Commisioners of the Town of Fountain as follows: - Section 1. That except as herein otherwise provided, a sidewalk shall be laid upon and along the following streets or portions thereof of the Town of Fountain, designated as fol lows: On the North side of Wilson Street between Railroad Street and the Western city limits; On the North side of Wilson Street between Jefferson Street and the Eastern city limits; t On the South side of Wilson Street between Railroad Street and the Western city limits; On the South side of Wilson Street between Eason Street and the East ern city limits. PROVIDED, HOWEVER, That this Resolution shall not apply to that portion of any street hereinbefore designated as to the part thereof where a sidewalk has already been constructed substantially in accord ance with the specifications herein after set out. Section 21 That the sidewalks hereby required to be laid shall be constructed in accordance with the plans and specifications in respect to sidewalks to be prepared by the Town's engineer. Section 3. That the sidewalks hereby required to be laid shall be constructed and laid by .the respective owners of the property abutting upon each side of the street, and such work shall be completed on or before the 16 day of June, 1947; and unless the same shall be made by such own ers on or before the date hereinbe fore specified, then the Board of Commissioners will cause such side walk improvements to be made and when so made by the Town the cost thereof shall be assessed against the lots and parcels of land on that side of the street upon which the side walk has been laid by the Town and abutting directly an the improve ment, according to their respective frontage thereon, by an equal rate per foot of such frontage. Section 4. That in case of default by any such property owner in malt ing the sidewalk improvements here in provided for and the assessment of the cost thereof against the lot or parcel of land of such owner abut ting thereon, then such owner shall have the option and privilege of pay ing the cost thereof in cash or in five (5) equal annual installments payable on the first Monday in Octar ber of each year, each installment to bear interest at the rate of six per cent per, annum from the date of the Confirmation of such assessment un til paid. Section 6. That this Resolution shall be forthwith published in the Farmville Enterprise, a newspaper of genera) circulation in the Town of f3!dn, and that no other or fur ther notice shall be required to be given to such abutting owners. Nolen, who presided, opened the meeting by the repeating of the pledge and closed It with, the collect. ? , The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Eari Bagley and Miss Margaret Smith served Lane cake, peanuts and cof fee on attractive Easter plates. The napkins also carried out the chosen color scheme. Lighted candles, jonquils, camel lias and hawthorn made a lovely set ting for the meeting. AU FAIT CLUB Mrs. Allen Darden entertained the Au Fait Club, Thursday afternoon, and a special guest, Mrs. J. H. Dar den, Jr., in her home which was de corated with spring flowers carrying out the Faster color scheme. Tallies also carried out the Easter colors., After the games stuffed angel food cake, coffee and cheese straws in the shape pf bunnies and chicks were served. Salted nuts and coca colas were passed between progres sions. / v.: Mrs. David Harris made high score and received a printed handkerchief. The low award, a set of score pads, went to Mrs. Emerson Smith. SAM BUNDY SPEAKS AT KINSTON AND OAK CITY Sam D. Bandy, secretary of the Farmville Chamber of Commerce, was guest speaker in Kinston on Wednesday night at a supper for the officials, exhibitors, and others con nected with the promotion of the Kinston Fat Stock Show. On, Thursday night, he. was guest speaker at a meeting of the Ruritan Club in Oak City. He spoke on "Building , a Better Community through Service."
