Glick, world famous seed grower of Smoketown, Pa. Glide recently made a tour of the Glades and East Coast sections of Florida where he studied the late blight situ ation which has become so serious. "Last season we had several new tyfjws of tomatoes growing on our farms whiek qhowed special promise in this directions-immunity to the late blight fungus," Glick said, "and these have been developed by plant specialists." He indicated that the immune type of tomato might be announced at any time during 1947. Glick is credited with having saved the situation once before, several years ago, by announcing new types of tomatoes '"which were virtually immune to nail-head rust. Up to that time, rust had threatened to wipe out the tomato industry in Florida and other states. (Rick stated tost since virtually all methods for "con trol" of the late blight have failed, a new attain which is immune to the fungus is the only answer. He indi cated his organization may have such an immune type of tomato, although seed for- this strain would be scarce for many years.
