P-. 4t Act at March 8rd, 1S78. WEEKLY TOBACCO REPORT Seufh Carolina and Border North Carolkta flue-cured tobacco prices during: the third week were very er ratic, with the gains and losses about equally divided. The majority of grades in leaf and primings were down from $1 to $4 per hundred while most lugs, smoking leaf and nondescript showed advances of 76c to |4 when compared with the second week of sales. CuttqfS were fairly steady, Most grade averages strengthened during the first of the week, but weakened toward the lat ter part. The volume of sales was consider ably heavier this week than last. Block sales prevailed on several mar kets Thursday and Friday. It is ex pected that practically all markets will be blocked next week and sail continue for several days, as most growers have finished harvesting and are now preparing their tobacco for marketing. Gross sales for the week amounted to 30,447,178 pounds at an average of 646.14. This aver age is only 10c below last week's average of 646.24. Season sales have reached 63,787,968 pounds at an average of $46.43. The quality of offerings has been lower. There were mere common and low qualities and less fine and choice. Bulk was made up principal ly of low to fine lugs, low to good leaf and cutters. Leaf grades in creased sharply during the week, with a corresponding decrease in lugs. However, lugs continued to predominate by a small margin, fol lowed by leaf and cutters. Deliveries to the Flue-Cured Sta bilization Corporation this week were estimated at around 10 per cent. This was only 2 per cent below last week's estimate of 12 per cent.'Most grades sold at or above advance prices.
