chants Association, announces the
appointment of John Council Parker
of Parmville to the important trans
portation committee of the organisa
tion; which now has -a membership of
more than 6,000 merchants.
In releasing the announcement of
Blount's appointments, Willard L.
Do well, executive vice president and
secretary of the Association, report
ed that special standing committees
havd~been appointed to: (1) investi
gate and recommend new services
which the organization might render
its members; (2) investigate motor
and rail freight rates being charged
in North Carolina and to report to
the Board of Directors any discrimi
nations which might be found; (3)
recommend tothe Board of Directors
policies for the Association to pursue
on various legislative, governmental
and public affaire matters; (4ty have
jurisdiction over the finances of the
Association, and (6) arbitrate dif
ferences and complaints which might
arise between local associations or
direct members of the Association.
The committee of which Mr. Park
er is a member will function during
the 1947-48 convention year.
METHODIST COLLEGE
STUDENTS HONORED
Rev. and Mrs. E. R. Clegg were
hosts at a barbecue chicken dinner
in the church dining room Thursday
night honoring the Methodistr who
will enter or return to college this
fall.
The table was centered with a
crystal bowl of red roses flanked by
lighted tapers.

Wedding music was presented by
Mrs. Haywood Smith, organist, and
Donald Perry, soloist, of Washing
ton, N. C.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a street-length
dress of ice blue silk fashioned with
a round neck and fitted bodice. The
skirt was drhped with a bow in the
back. Her accessories were black.
Sije carried a white prayer book, top
ped with a white orchid and shower
ed with stephanotis and white
streamers. Her only ornament was
s cameo, gift of the bridegroom.
Mrs. C. J. Tyson of Greensboro
was her sister's only attendant Her
street length dress of royal blue
crepe was designed with a round
neck, fitted bodice, and a straight
skirt with a double pephim. She wore
black accessories and carried a colo
nial bouquet of pastel colored asters
tied with yellow ribbon.
William E. Bowen.was his broth
er's best man. Ushers were Douglas
Jones of Farmville, brother of the
bride, and Philip Ldverman, Edward
Willoughby and Frank Mayo, all of
Plymouth.
The bride's mother wore a black
crepe dress trimmed with silver se
quins with black accessories and a
corsage of red roses and stephano
tis. The mother of the bridegroom
wore a green and white sheer dress,
black accessories, and a corsage of
red roses. .
Mrs. Bowen was graduated from
Farmville high school and attended
East Carolina Teachers College,
Greenville.
Mr. Bowen was graduated from
Plymouth high school and attended
State college where he was s mem
ber of the Theta Tau fraternity. He
is now in grocery business with his
