Last year, Pearaall toW the
ers and gmners, the average
firlHiS
ceived about $600 per acre J
bacco crop, bat this year the figure
will probably be about $480 per acre.
Be pointed out that the
acreage quota for 1948 will return
only 8384 per acre on tobacco,
"We must plan now to resort to
other cash crop#," be said. "One
thing we might think about la turn
ing some of the acreage which will
be idled by the tobacco quota reduc
tion into cotton production to supple
ment the lose of cash that will reault
from the reduced tobacco acreage. If
we do plant this extra acreage to cot
ton, we will be insuring our future,
for it ia possible that we will have
cbtton acreage control hi 1849 and
our wisdom in planting more cotton
will give us a better history, which is
the basis of such quota allotments."
Fred P. Johnson, Raleigh, vice
president of the Carolines Gtnttsrs
Association, and J. Henry Vaughn,
Elm City, head of the Nash-Edge
combe unit, also spoke briefly.

turn to positive ill-feeling if you can
