Big preparations are being made bj the Pitt County Agricultural Fair foi the annual event which will be stages in Greenville October 6-11, according to information received -from J. How ard Moye of Greenville, president, en< Norman Y. Chambliss, manager. $3,760 is being offered by the 196S fair for agricultural exhibits, sue this is the largest amount ever to be offered to agricultural interests and leaders by a county fair. The new and up-to-date fairgrounds at Green ville will be used for the second year. Goodman, Mm. Sue Brickhouse May, home demonstration agent, and Mrs. Martha Forest will serve as entry cleric. The Strates Model Shows will be on the midway. This is a big railroad show, presenting 20 modern rides, and. 16 up-to-date shows. This is the larg est midway ever to appear in East ern North Carolina. — Manager Chambliss, a veteran fair manager who knows a good fair when he sees one and who knows what goes into making a successful event, has this to say about the 1962 fair: “Hie people of Pitt county have made their fair at Greenville one of the largest in the South. Hie facili ties for taking care of exhibits and patrons are excellent. This will be the greatest fair in the history of the eounty, and we hope to reach an attendance mark of at least 76,000. Sugg High School 111 1 Through the friendly co-operation of its citizenship, both white and colored, Farmville has been able to build up a Negro school that in molt respecteequals and in some respects surpasses any in the state for a com munity of its population. The -school closed last session with a membership of d#0 elementary and 196 high school student e. For the coming year it will operate with twenty elementary and seven high school teachers. The administration has long been cognizant of the very obvious fact that a very small percentage of its product would he financially able to pursue a profession through a long, and expensive college career and that tiie great majority would have to seek: a living by some form of manual labor.
