''Rev. W. H. Hardrn, rector of , St.
Mark's Episcopal church and a true
blue Gastonlan, who is spending , a
couple of months at Blowing Rock
where be is supplying the pastorate
of .the Episcopal church; writes as
follows under date of the J 4th:
"1 was much Interested In the list
of slogans suggested or Gastonia in
your last issue. It seems to me that
no town in the entire Piedmont sec
tion of North Carolina is offering
such exceptional opportunities In ev

.The following are from Mrr J. H.
Kennedy, proprietor . of Kennedy's
drug 'store, - "Gastonia x Growing
Great," "Gastonia Growing Great

Greater," "Gastonia Is Great and
Growing," "Gastonia Growing Great

Someone whose name - we no not

Coming, Watch Her Grow."
Mr. I. R. McFadden, the Davis
block grocer, is heartily in favor of
a slogan for Gastonia. He thinks
we should have one by all means.
He says: "Gastonia wllmibs faster
than any city or town in the State
and has more push and vim than
any town double its size in the Unit

Suggestions for slogans for Gas
tonia continue to come in. This
morning's mall brought a letter
from Mrs. Olivia Moore Blase, one
of The Gazette's 'good lady friends
who resides in Richmond, Va., con
taining several splendid slogans
which are given below. Mrs. Blase,
who was formerly Miss Olivia
Moore, of Dallas, this county, re
cently won the distinction of offer
ing a slogan which was adopted by
the Virginia city In which she lives.
The Richmond News-Leader of re
cent date contains contains the fol
lowing item with reference to this:
"The Historic Center Busy
Richmond:" This slogan, written
and contributed by Mrs. Louis C.
Blase, of 7 East Main street, was to
day selected by a committee of five
Judges,- acting for The News Leader
as the. winner of the $25 prize.
"The committee was as follows:
J. G. Corley, president of the Cable
Piano Company; Henry W. Wood,
president of the Chamber of Com
merce; J. A. Connelly, real estate
dealer; W. M. Addison, cashier of
the National Bank of Virginia, and
George Ainslie, lawyer.
"In the opinion of the five Judges,
the slogan adopted indicates Rich
mond and what she was and is.
"The Historic Center" speaks volu
ably of her glorious past, while
"Busy. Richmond" expresses strong
ly her present activity and aggres
siveness. "The winning slogan was selected
out of hundreds which were con
tributed by contestants in the race.
Every contribution was carefully
read and compared with others and
the committee gave much thought to
the selection. By process of elim
ination the favorable ' ones were
narrowed down to the winning slo
gan. . .
"Mrs. Blase contributed a number
