McFadden, the Davis block grocer, is heartily in favor of a slogan for Gastonia. He thinks we should have one by all means. He says: "Gastonia wllmibs faster than any city or town in the State and has more push and vim than any town double its size in the Unit ed States. It has the richest coun try to back it up So come one and all and Invest your money either in city or country property. It will be the road to prosperity for you. If you don't do this you will regret it as long as you live." This morning's mall brought a letter from Mrs. Olivia Moore Blase, one of The Gazette's 'good lady friends who resides in Richmond, Va., con taining several splendid slogans which are given below. Mrs. Blase, who was formerly Miss Olivia Moore, of Dallas, this county, re cently won the distinction of offer ing a slogan which was adopted by the Virginia city In which she lives. The Richmond News-Leader of re cent date contains contains the fol lowing item with reference to this: "The Historic Center Busy Richmond:" This slogan, written and contributed by Mrs. Louis C. Blase, of 7 East Main street, was to day selected by a committee of five Judges,- acting for The News Leader as the. winner of the $25 prize. "The committee was as follows: J. G. Corley, president of the Cable Piano Company; Henry W. Wood, president of the Chamber of Com merce; J. A. Connelly, real estate dealer; W. M. Addison, cashier of the National Bank of Virginia, and George Ainslie, lawyer. "In the opinion of the five Judges, the slogan adopted indicates Rich mond and what she was and is. "The Historic Center" speaks volu ably of her glorious past, while "Busy. Richmond" expresses strong ly her present activity and aggres siveness. "The winning slogan was selected out of hundreds which were con tributed by contestants in the race. Every contribution was carefully read and compared with others and the committee gave much thought to the selection. By process of elim ination the favorable ' ones were narrowed down to the winning slo gan. . . "Mrs. Blase contributed a number of slogans, all of which were good."
