J PAGE TWO. THE GASTOXTA GAZETTE. (JASTOX1A IS A BUST TOWN. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1913i The Gastonia Gazette. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 113. Edtor Milton Tlddr has sold The Lincoln County News to Mr. John T. Perkins, of Greensboro, the sale Sav ing been consummated Monday. Mr. Tlddy does not state what field he rs to enter but intimates that he Is to leave Lincolnton. He has given the people of Lincoln county a bright, newsy paper. We extend the right hand of fellowship to brother I'er Mns and wish for him large success in his new undertaking. Education In Gaston. Charlotte Observer. The Gastonia Gazette Is happily tn position to make an envious boast: That Gaston county leads the Stale in the equipment of high schools. The county that challenges the claim should have a cantion. Gas ton county has modernly equipped high schools at Belmont. Mt. Holly. Bessemer City, Stanley, Dallas, Chwr Tyvllle and Gastonia. Of Professor Query and his school at Belmont, The Gazette says that In addition to the other up-to-date equipment It Jt&a enjoyed, It has been supplied with a chemical laboratory. The high, school at Dallas has a similar equipment. Further, In connection with the high school, Professor Query has a night public school, with more than 50 pupils in attend ance, taking advantage of the op portunity afforded the boys and girls J a- Vt t 2: WIWI ifi V Jn.fT9eitivf.: P f -yBtpaoi - !nT ff iuo Ji"i who .labor at the looms and spindles in the day time to acquire an educa tion. It is a fortunate paper that can make out as good a case for Us county in the matter of education as The Gazette does for Gaston. The Cocaine Dealer. Greensboro News. Aluohol is bad for a man; opium is worse, hasheesh and chloral are worse than either opium or alcohol, but John Barleycorn, the pipe and the hypodermic all fade into Insig nificance beside the "joy powder," the most monstrous drug of them all, cocaine. Alcohol, opium and the rest, de stroy the physical and finally the in tellectual man; cocaine destroys tne moral man. The commoner drugs poison the body; cocaine poisons trie soul. If, asswme maintain, the man who sells the first four is guilty of destroying indirectly the lives of his fellows, and therefore is to be clas sified in the same category with mur derers, the coke-dealer is guilty of destroying indirectly their souls, and is therefore to be classed with no earthly criminal his chief is Apol lyon, angel of the bottomless pit, ana his fellows are the bearers of tne flesh-fork. Farmers Get Less Than Half. The State Journal. An investigation of prices on the Washington market on August nth last showed that purchases of eggs, dressed chicken, butter, country sau sage, country ham and apples, which cost the consumer $".S2 had neen sold by the farmers who produced them for $2.73. On all other arti cles produced upon the farms, prices ran about the same way, eo that a total crop for wfeteh the farmers re O'NEAL'S New Winter Styles In Hats. In the face of such well known tfgures as these Theodore Roosevelt said tne Democrats were insincere In their intention of reducing the cost of liv ing because the cost of living could only be reduced by taking the pro tection off of farm products! That is a fair example of the Rough Ri der's statemanship. The farmer gets less than half the price that consum ers pay because business is waterlog ged with monopoly which Is able to take any toll it wishes. Mr. Wilson has dedicated his administration to freeing business. And the tariff and currency measures are but the first steps. Oldest Living Pythian. George R.
